    Heya guys!

I'm planning to apply to an internal position in my workplace and have to hand in my updated CV and a cover letter. Would I just handle this cover letter as if I'd apply without working for the company?

I'm a bit lost there as I'm not sure how to start off...

I was in the same position earlier this year when I was going for a promotion. I started with the usual " I wish to apply for the position of ...". I then explained why I thought I would be suitable for the role and gave examples of what I was doing in my current role relevant to the new role. I finished off with the usual " would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the position further ...". Best of luck!

Concentrate on the role and give your strongest arguments in the cover letter as to why you believe you are suited to that role- the cover letter is really a summary of achievement to date but in your case, specifically tailored for that role-
If there were 5 different positions going in that company right now, then if you were applying for each of them (which would be a bit unusual), you would complete 5 different cover letters.

Concentrate on the competencies and key requirements of the role advertised and ensure you cover these off in some manner in your cover letter.

I would say not - your inside knowledge is an advantage, so use it!

Thanks a lot for the advice guys! I just handed in my application and took all of them into account!

Now it's the waiting game to see what comes out of it!
