Wireless broadband in Ranelagh that isn't UPC

Long story short, my g/f and her housemate had UPC for all of a day or two before her housemate got annoyed by something UPC did and cancelled their contract. Since then she's been using the personal hotspot feature on her iPhone, which is pretty crap.

Does anyone have any experience of an option that will allow her to connect her iPhone and laptop wirelessly (possibly a mobile broadband hotspot, I guess) that will have a decent connection in that area?

Also, with the personal hotspots, do they need to be connected to a PC to be used (basically would she have to have it plugged into her PC to connect her iPhone to the wireless network)?

    Cheers.

used a meteor dongle in rathmines/ranelagh a few times and got about 3-5mb download and pings about 70 or so if it's any use... and the mifi devices don't have to be plugged into a pc... avoid imagine anyways!

Never used the mifi device myself but if it's not to broadcast the wifi signal too far it should do the trick or even get a 3g router

something like that would work fine for a dongle to be hooked up too

Thanks Al. The 3g router sounds good as her flatmate already has a Meteor dongle. Is it as simple as just plugging in the dongle into the router and away you go?

Anyone got any recommendations for a decent 3g router?

Tell her house mate to swallow her pride and sign up with UPC again.

The heels have been well and truly dug in. I don't have the heart to try to force her to see common sense.

Are those compatible with the Meteor E173 stick?

She is truly mad to attempt to swap real broadband for mobile midband.

yea upc would be far better though!

but yea it's simple to set up and should be compatble alrite

i always rec the "tp-link" routers since they're oddly cheap and reliable with good range, I think i plugged the one i have out once or twice this year... think they have a 3g n router for 30 odd quid too

the list of Huawei compatable devices is there too

Have to agree, Id actually prefer to throw my housemate out on their ear rather than lose the only actual decent broadband in the country.

    Out on their ear.

Not sure, I'm taking the chance :D
