Samsung SII question.

    Hi All,

I just bought the SII and to be honest coming from the Nokia N97 mini it is a world apart and I am really happy with it. However, not being very tech minded I have a problem with something and hopefully there is a straight-forward answer to it.

I went to download the latest version of Flash (both from Adobe.com and from another website) and the phone will not allow me to do this without having to set up a google or g mail account first.
The thing is I dont want to set up a google or g mail account or any other account for that matter if I can possibly help it.
    The question is this,
Is there a way of doing this without setting up an account? Have I missed something in the settings menu? or has Samsung and Google got you by the proverbials and I have no choice?

Sorry if the question has been asked and answered by someone already, if so just giving me the link to the thread would be appreciated. Otherwise answers and suggestions are welcome. It just really annoys me with this having to set up an account with google which is no relation to the product I want to download.

    Many thanks....

You need a Google account to use the marketplace (and to get the most out of the phone tbh)
The phones flash player app is installed & updated through the market

Yeah not setting up a gmail account is kind of like going to a free soup buffet with a fork.

The reason Google took on Android was to integrate you into all of their services.
It'd be interesting to see how many people sign up to a gmail account to activate their phone, and then see how much they're using Google Services after a year.
Come back in a year and let us know :)

For me one of the best things is the integration. All apps that you buy for instance are tied to your gmail account, that means in 18-24 months when you're finished with the s2 and buy a new phone you won't have to re buy the apps you have been using.
Another nice thing is, when you sign in with your new gmail account and hit sync, all of your contacts will be associated with your gmail account, you can go to www.google.com/contacts where you can see and edit them. Then if you ever lose your phone or have it stolen, when you get a new android phone you just sign into your account and hit sync again and all of your contacts are back on your phone.

Yeah I'd agree with the lads. The Google integration is brilliant. Having phone numbers backed up online is well handy when changing phones.

If you really don't want to set up a google account then I'm sure the flash apk is around the interweb somehwere. Ill have a gander but seriously, your gonna kick yourself if you don't setup a google account.

Just to clarify for you, you can't install stuff on the phone like you would on a PC. You have to install Flash and all other apps by downloading them from the Market. (or by downloading the .apk file for the app from the internet)

What you have is an Android phone not a PC. Its a phone with an Operating System built by google, so you need a google account to use it. Set up a google account and sign up to the Market. Once you start downloading apps from there you will wonder what you were giving out about. As mentioned above by C-Shore after a year you will be using GMail and syncing your calendar with Google Calendar and backing up contacts and all the other wonderful advantages that come with a google account and an android phone.

That clears that up, TBH I didn’t know about the relationship between Google and Android. As I said in first post not very tech minded as far as these things are concerned. Wasn’t giving out as such just felt “why should I have to” but have a better understanding now thanks.

Apps are a bit over my head at the moment. So far I have figured out syncing my business e-mail and hooking the phone up to my Laptop as a modem, which saves me a ton of time. But I’m getting the picture now!]

The thoughts of being able to have all my contacts transferred to a new phone in a few minutes sounds great. It took me hours the last time!!

A Gmail account just by itself TBH meh! But I can see what you mean if its in relation to above.

Many thanks for the replies and information everyone. As I said really happy so far with the phone and by the sounds of things the sytem still has a whole lot more to offer.

    Cheers everyone.

To Mods.. question answered thread can be closed, many thanks.
