Was there not talk sometime during the year that perhaps, the clocks would not be going back this year?

This, of course, would depend on our neighbours across the water?

Anybody got any up-to-date info on this?

I know from my developer in the Ukraine that they're not doing it from now. Don't know about us, but assume we are.

They went forward, so they have to go back. Last weekend in October usually.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Clocks will be going back...and this talk of doing away with GMT are just that: talk...it didn't work last time they tried and it won't work any better 40 yrs later.
It won't save energy, it won't make roads safer, it won't do any of who ever's behind it say it will....you want to make real differences, stagger working/school hours for winter months and enforce safety measures for pedestrians/cyclists.
As for dark evenings affecting your social life....get over it; it's 2 months of the year...

And, this is gospel, They are gonna come up with an extra season this year instead of what was known as Winter. Because we already had Winter this Summer and the EU says we Irish can't have 2 Winters in 1 calander year and who arehave we to arguegrovel?

I wish it was the truth, I hate it when the clocks go back, the loss of that hour is terrible, I would much prefer if it stayed bright until nearly 6pm every evening instead of only 5

    Yes...in the mornings.

People would be fair and pissed if come december they're in work/school/college/home and it's still dark at well past 9am.

I hate dark evenings as much as the next but you can't get away from the fact that the mid winter day at this latitude is 7 hrs long and our work day is 8 hrs...

Time and Space Administration (TSA) forgot to order winter for this year. No big freeze at least not bad though.

    BTW, TSA is mighty!

Some clown of a TD or senator is trying to set up an oireachtas committee on this clocks change thing. I swear to f*ck have those idiot nothing better to do?
All this bluster just now on Last Word that it will save energy and make us more european and they did it in the US and it saved X million dollars...
We aren't even near the same latitude as the northern most part of the contiguous USA (Alaska obvious exception) and we are 20 min W of GMT line (30 in the W of Ireland)...
Says he's had letters from people giving out about being depressed with the dark evenings... have they tried getting up and hour earlier in the winter?

BTW the clocks will indeed be going back this w/e at least this year. But not if this shower have their blinkered way...

I think I'd rather the extra hour of daylight in the evening than the morning in Winter.

No way, I'd rather the morning. I find getting up when it's still dark is one of the most depressing things in the world.

Is there any way of slipping a sneaky hour in during the day, about midday or there abouts just so it's not dark going to and coming home from work?
It could be called splong o'clock.

You'd love it in Lapland in winter. There the sun doesn't rise at all for up to six weeks in winter.

I remember being there (in summer) with a group of tourists years ago. A local guide, who was a Sámi, explained that the days are very long in summer and it's the opposite in winter in that remote, sparself populated place.

An American asked: "What the hell do you do up here all year round?", to which the Sámi replied: "in de sommer vi vish and vuck and in de vinter vi don't vish so much.":D

As for the clocks going back and forward, all EU countries now make the change at the same time.

My only problem with it is changing the clocks on various electrical devices, because I haven't a clue how to do it and usually have to ask a ten-year-old neighbour to come and do it for me.:o

There should just be one time zone across the planet. Would reduce a lot of headaches.
