Planning on heading out to knock on farmers doors in the area to offer a bit of a hand with the vermin control.

Just wondering what the general practice is with shot birds and rabbits carcasses, leave them lie there, or collect in a pile by a ditch, any help appreciated

Ask the farmer how he would like them disposed off. Usually they would go into a ditch or briars but some farmers might not want that. Wouldn't even mention it unless they ask you bud. Speak to them about the positives not the negatives

Would ya think of butchering the rabbits - or giving them to someone who will. Excellent meat - shame to see it wasted no..?

rabbits can be eaten, the ones you dont want and foxes, crows and the likes are normally put into the ditch out of sight of the public and away from any streams. they'll be gone in a matter of days. Dont leave them dumped in the middle of the field anyway.

Yep - nature's scavangers quickly deal with small carcasses like that - fox carcasses are also usefull to bring in hoodies and mags for the gun.:)

Now, I'm not looking to get the snow bunnies undies moist here, but....

If there's threat of snow like last year, one thing I'll say ye all should do. Any foxes shot in cold weather, kick them under furze bushes.

I did that with one fox last year, and wish I'd had more. That one fox = 14 busted hoodies :D Nice and red, so great contrast against the snow. Finish up for the day, just bury him in the white stuff and dig him up the next day.

Most fun I ever had shooting.

Thanks for the pointers, I plan on making use of the rabbits for the dogs dinner, but the left overs and a few crows and stuff can go in the ditch
