    Hi,

Just wondering if someone could tell me when the inauguration of the new president in Ireland will take place? Also, I assume this will be a public holiday like the last time?

    Thanks

Wikipedia tells me that it's the day after the expiry of the previous President's term. I think Mary McAleese's term is over on the 10th November, so I'd guess Friday 11th November will be the inauguration of the new president.

I'd assume it'll be a public holiday, hope so anyway!

In 1997, when the current president was inaugurated, I got the day off school. I don't know if it was a public holiday thought, it could just have been a school day off.

What do you want a day off work for ? It's not like it's a Royal Wedding. :)

Depending on who wins we might manage to justify it as a sick day! :D

Says who? It was a public holiday the last 2 times, why will it not be a public holiday this time?

People getting this occasion mixed up with US inauguration perhaps.. There's a big difference between that job and the Irish presidency!

Yup! That job involves overseeing murder in another country and excusing it.

    Hmmm.......

Exactly. The Irish president hasn't got the powers to do that.

I actually don't think this is a public holiday. Schools might be closed but that's not necessarily a national day off. Pity, but what can one do.
