I worked in New York for a little over a year. Didn't have a car when I was over there. Missed it terribly. In truth, it's one of the reasons I moved home. :o

A year? Don't think I could survive that long, I hate asking people for lifts and public transport is not an option.

If I don't have a car, I cycle. I'd miss it a lot though... Just for convenience.

It's annoying to be without the use of a car when you've got used to always having it

Public transport is your only option in NYC. Subway is excellent. Taxis are plentiful and cheap. The buses are where are all the weirdos hang out though.

A year is a long time and I got through it by drinking during the week and renting a car of a weekend to get off Manhattan.

No car is just not an option in Ireland, its mostly rural, crap public transport and every time you step outside the door it starts pissing!

Being without a car in Ireland is a ball ache unless you live and work in very close proximity to each other in an urban area. I've had a car since a few weeks after doing the Leaving Cert.

I didnt have a car of my own for over 2 years. It was incredibly limiting in Ireland due to the awful public transport

Having the option of a car was nice, however it was a total ballache to find anywhere to park it when living in the Hague.

Would come back after 3 months and the Q-Park guys had written dates in the Dust and 'abandoned' on the Window.

Good public transport is great if you don't have kids or a dog, the Car still works out much cheaper even when going to Amsterdam :D

The P+R Points are only 8 euros for 24 hours and you get public transport passes to the center for up to 5 people !

I was without my car for two days while waiting for it to be repaired and nearly cracked up. Im 29 and have been driving since I was 17; the idea of actually having to use my legs to get place is totally alien to me!

Sold my old car last Tuesday off Donedeal. Had to wait till Friday for new one. It was a nightmare dependingon friends to leave you places.

I Would be same. My car is vital to get to work in the first place. I am not living in one of main towns, so public transport is not existing. Then my work place in a midle of nowhere and I need to be at work at full power at 5:00 in the morning.
God bless drive throughs mcDonald's. I don't even need to get my fat arse from the car anymore after very busy day at work.
Even after I'll get a new car, I won't be selling my bangornomics ford and I will keep the nct up on it. It will be my emergency car.

My car might sit untouched for three or four days at a time, but when I need it I really need it.

I really miss not driving my car everyday.

I would say I am driving it every second / 3rd day but it feels strange walking passed it in the mornings going to get the bus to work.

    She gets lonely :(:(:(:(:(:(

Lived in Amsterdam for the bones of a year, think I was actually only in a car on 3 occasions in that time.

Actually really enjoyed it as the city is made for cycling and public transport is excellent. Also meant that going for a pint or two after work was exceptionally easy to do.

That said, within 2 days of being home I had bought another car.

Doesnt work like that though. Its four days where you have to get to the places you normally go to without having the car. It's a massive pain in the arse.

I'm working out by Merrion road for a few weeks and have to get there without my car for at least another 2 weeks. I'm using a mixture of getting lifts when they are availble and cycling. I'm hating it. I'd still rather do that that get the bus though, I ****ing hate busses.
