Currently looking at the Samsung RV520 on LaptopsDirect.ie €511.82 (+£50 cashback from samssungbachback.com) Making the total cost €454.

    The specs are:

    Processor: Intel Core i3-2310M (2.1GHz)
    RAM: 6GB DDR3 RAM
    Hard Drive: 750GB Hard Drive
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
    Screen: 15.6" HD LED Screen
    Optical Drive: DVDSM
    Graphics: Intel HD Graphics

Anybody know of a better deal in or around that price?
I was thinking the second gen i3 + 6gb of ram makes is a seriously good deal?

Pretty decent deal. What do you need it for?

Mostly just general use but also playing a few games, not high end stuff, bit og cs 1.6, civ, footy manager etc, civ and footymanager dont need a massive CPU but the 6gigs of ram will really eat into load times and make playign a lot slicker.

Should do you fine then. Have a look around see if you can't find anything better, if not then go for it.

Here you go, bit pricier but much better laptop overall.

    http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_B570_1117619.html

This thing will last you a long time.

And use code :B570 for 50 pounds off.

It's a quality system but almost 200 more than the other one when the cashback is applied and a bit of overkill.

I'm in a position where I need a new laptop and I have a budget of 500ish, I can't really afford to spend that much more on it right now, but will probably be building a mid-high end desktop around christmas anyway so don't really need the overkill on a laptop, ya know?

    Cheers anyway dude.

Think I am going to go with this, it's an RV520 again but has 2gb less ram, however, it comes in at an amazing €397 after the cashback and I could easily add RAM later if I feel I need it, 4gb of DDR3 should be tons for what I want right now anyway.

Processor Intel® Core™ i3-2310M Dual Core (2.1GHz, Intel Sandy Bridge Architecture, 3MB Cache)
Screen 15.6" (Samsung SuperBright Gloss LED TFT, 1366 x 768 HD)
Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit
    RAM 4GB (DDR3)
    Hard Drive 500GB
Optical Drive DVD Rewriter (Records DVDs 8x & CDs 24x & Dual Layer Super Multi)
Graphics Integrated (Intel® GMA X4500 3D Graphics with Upto 1759MB Shared Memory)
    Wireless LAN Wireless (802.11b/g/n Wireless)
Network Card 10/100/1000 Gigabit Fast Ethernet

No problem. If you can go for the open box with the i5. Again it'll just last you longer. But the i3 one should do you for 2 years with a ram upgrade I'd say.

The one I just got from saveonlaptops.co.uk would be more than good enugh for you, but for what you're looking for you couldd get it even cheaper, you don't need to worry too much about processor speed or ram, anything past a p2 dual core and 2gb or ram and you'd be grand.

Ya was thinking about going for this myself(Link here for anyone interested)

    http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_RV520_1087516.html

Don't think I have overlooked any of the finer details.

I'm pretty sure delivery to Ireland is about a tenner.

I also am in the market for a new laptop, I'm looking at

    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/ACER-Aspire-Timeline-X-4830T-141andquot-Laptop-Blue/307016/301

It's 14" screen, super long battery life (9hrs) and it's slim and light, handy for going in and out in college. Only problem it's 570 quid

    What do ye think?

have a look on saveonlaptops.co.uk and laptopsdirect.ie and see if you can find it for less there. I noticed their prices were up to €120 lower for the same speced machines than the pcworld.

Paid €475 including delivery (£9.50 i think) and a 1.5% surcharge for paying by creditcard (£6.50ish, you can avoid this if you have a lazer/electron).

But when I get the machine I can claim the cash back which brings the price down to €419.

you just go to samsungcashback.com, it's apprently for Students but if you know somebody who is a student you can just use their college ID number and you'll be grand.

Just got my RV520-AO3 delivered today, arrived in 2 working days, very pretty, very light for the size has and sunsumg's fast start tech which is very handy, comes with a HDMI port too, very happy indeed with my choice.
