Pistons smash into injectors so it's very messy to recover the engine. I'm sure it could be done, but sourcing a new engine would probably be cheaper.

More then likely the valves will have bent.

The injectors will be fine, but the valves will be damaged for sure. Sourcing engines isn't an ideal solution either, I know one guy who's recently fitted a 'good' secondhand engine to his car, and a few weeks later the big end decided it had enough.

rebuild your existing engine so long as it hasn't thrown a con rod or some other major problem. you wont ever really know what mileage a second hand engine has done unless its still in the car, and even then.... you wont know the extent of damage for sure until the engine is stripped but you can bet the pistons wont have touched the injectors:rolleyes:

Considering the age I would suggest you the head off and inspect. 11 year old means cheapest possible diagnosis. If no damage (which is possible if it was knocked off immediately and was not under load as you say) then you need a head gasket kit and a belt. Otherwise you need a trip to the breakers and get a replacement engine which considering the age of vehicle will be much cheaper than reconditioning.

Unless you are at max rpm the only damage that gets cause by a timing belt breaking is bent valves.

You don't need to remove anything to check for damage, a leakdown test will tell you if and what valves have been damaged.
