My old laptop got depressed and jumped off a counter top. The battery was already on the way out, and now the hard drive is, technically speaking, banjaxed.

I had a look in PC World yesterday, and came across a surprisingly good laptop for a reasonable price.

    Acer Aspire 5750

There was a comparable Dell system right next to it for a bit more

I think I'd need a full size laptop with reasonable speed and performance. Shop staff was telling two other customers that the Acer wouldn't have the build quality of Dell? Keyboard seemed fine, and I'm not going to be hanging it on the wall. I've read the viewing area / screen isn't the best, as well as the audio. But it's only really for work, so I think that should be ok.

I know you could probably get better online, but I may need a new one at short notice.

    Thanks

    Mark

I have the 5750 Acer with the i3 Cpu, same case as the 1 you have pictured, its a fine laptop, the only small gripe I have is the location of the power button, while picking the laptop up sometimes I power it off.

I'd not buy any of those consumer laptops if you're on the go all the time. I'd look at the latitude line from Dell or Thinkpad from Lenovo, better built and will last a lot longer than the plastic rubbish like acer.

Latitudes in that spec start at €719 (excl vat and shipping). Lenovo did have one for similar spec and price actually.

The Acer was out of stock, and I didn't fancy the Dell one for an extra €80. Being stubborn, I went to three other shops, and found a very nice Lenovo one. Got it in soundstore in Limerick, free case.

Very happy with it so far.
