Does anyone know when they give out the book vouchers for people who got over 550? I'm really hoping it's this month or i'll have bought all my course books already...i know i can use it next semester but still, it's a lot of money to be paying so early in the year! Thanks.

There's usually no need to buy many of your course texts. Nearly all of them should be in the library. Although obviously I can't say for definite about your course, but check the library before you buy one.

I asked in the Exams Office and they said they'd be posting them out in the next few weeks. I'm in my 2nd year, so I hope the 2nd allotments get sent before all the 1st year ones because last year I didn't get it til early November and I really do need to get my books soon...

I thought it was for people who got over 560?! Or is there a definite cut-off because I've heard different things!

They're supposed to send them out in September. I asked Rachel Barry at the end of September, she was told they'd be sent out "in a couple of weeks". There's a few books I'd really like to buy, but they seem to be really taking their time.

This is the first I've heard of this! Does anyone know if you have to ask for it, or do they just send them out automatically?

It sounds like the "entrance exhibition" thing for freshers.

There's also book tokens for getting a 1st in your exams, which haven't been sent out yet either. They're worth a fraction of the entrance exhibition thingy though.

Speaking of prizes, has anyone received any of the exam prizes yet?

    Is it 550 or 560?

I got 560 and never heard anything regarding this. Are they still available? I haven't bought any books yet

They are automatically sent to anyone who gets 560 or over in the LC. They haven't been sent out yet though. I'm sure they had to wait until the recheck results came out to get everything in order.

No one ever mentioned this to me...I got a 1st...will I auto be sent it or is it just for certain courses?

I believe it's any course. I don't want to get your hopes up in case it isn't, though. It certainly is for TP/maths, anyway.

Unrelated to thread, but is a 'first' over 70% ?

Yep! To get a first overall I think you need a 70% average across all your modules.

The first year prizes are sent out in early November before the ceremonies (you'll get your invite with the vouchers) and IIRC the second year are sent out this month.

I got a modern language Composition award in September! Really early this year, I got the same one last year and it was November before they sent it. It wasn't book vouchers though, so it was sent by the Treasurer's Office not Admissions and Exams.

I think it is every course. I'm in TSM so I got half of one last year :p (got a I in one subject, a II.1 in the other)

I'm fairly certain it's 550. The year I got into my course the points were 550 so everyone apart from some mature students and some TAPs got it. And we were able to collect it from the examinations and timetables office. You could try that so you don't have to wait for it to be posted out.

Pretty sure it was 560 in 2009, whereas it was previously 540 or 550 I think.

It changes every few years. For last year and this year it's 560.

Ah, I guess the bar was lower in my day (2006!). That said I would have gotten the prize this year too anyway...ahem, cough, ahem, pride and all that what now?

Longer than that! You have til October to bring it to Hodges Figgis, but once they convert it to a gift card, it lasts forever... I found and used the end of my JF ones today (I'm in JS!) and still have a tenner or so from the SF ones on another card. :D

The same happened to me, id already bought my books when I got the voucher. But in my day the Hodges Figgis vouchers were good for HMV too, most of my class bought something really cheap in Hodges Figgis, got their change in vouchers and bought iPods in HMV. If it's the still that way then maybe those of you who don't need books are in need of an mp3 player?

Got my "getting a first" book token today. Time to go buy half a text book!

I squandered my book vouchers during 1st and 2nd year. I shall cherish this €32 voucher. I'll probably wait for westlife's autobiography to come out.
