talk to someone about sitting the leaving cert French exam this year while still continuing my first year science course and then applying for arts next year? (I didn't do a third language last year) I know that sounds a bit specific but I'm just trying to give all the details. I was told that I could do this but obviously id need to talk to someone in the college about it. thanks.

    Would it involve the college?
Essentially you're just repeating a Leaving Cert exam and reapplying for a new degree next year - where does the college come into it? What sort of "exemption" or "deal" could you want from them?

Would it not make more sense to drop out of your course so you won't have to pay fees next year?

i just wanted to know whether it would be a problem continuing my first year and doing a leaving cert exam at the end of it or if they had some sort of exam i could take that would meet the matriculation requirements.
@the internet i had thought about that but i wasnt sure seen as i got a grant and have half paid for my accommodation how straightforward it would be? im living in corrib so do you think i would get that money back probably minus the deposit?

I don't think you'd get the money back from Corrib but paying fees for a year would end up being a lot more. If you drop out before October 31st, I think, then the college won't have claimed any of the fees so you won't have to pay them next year.
You should get the same amount of grant money next year as long as you haven't got an instalment so far this year.
I had a similar problem to you last year, I dropped out in January but was able to come back and repeat the year. I have to pay half the fees and don't get the full grant though :(

If you've any more questions you can send me a pm

Think about what you're doing first though.

A science degree has far more opportunities than an arts degree.
