    Oh yes!

Doesn't take long either to have it back up and running the way you want it, couple of hours.

Give the Fan a bit of a clean out while your at it.

Keep pressing F8 (could be F2) on start up to get the reinstall option.

This site may be of use to you for reinstalling stuff after.

Just done a factory reset and the laptop is much faster :) how would I go about cleaning the fan?

Best way is to take it apart.

Most people give it a blast of compressed Air in through the Vents, if doing that be careful of the Fan blades, hold them in place so as not to damage them.

You could hoover it to, but their is a danger of static discharge damaging the Laptop, if you plug out/take out battery you should be fine, I never had a problem anyway, I give mine a hoover every wk with a thin plastic connection that's meant for the hard to fit into places stuck on the end.

    This Thread.

    Loads of vids on youtube.

If you haven't noticed any change in how often the Fan turns on then you can probably leave well enough alone for now.

May I recommend installing Glary Utilities, and CCleaner. Many options available to you then, remove junk, edit what programs start on startup, clean up registry, etc :)

Naa, you don't need them after reinstalling, they're for wasting abit of time before you re-install, although CCleaner can be handy.

Windows has a built in function for stopping programs from starting.

OP once you have your Laptop back up and running the way you want it make a Copy of it on to a DVD or external HDD, you can do this through windows aswell or a 3rd Party program.

Then When you run into bother again you can use this to be back running in less than a half hour.

The fan has got nosier over the past few years. So if I remove the battery and just blow air around the fan it'll be alright?

Yea, it'l work but it's not the best way, short bursts aimed at in at an angle, (don't tilt the Can to Far it can come out as a liquid) lift the laptop to reduce angle, don't let the air spin the fan, use a Q-tip to stop it or something.

Just give the fan a shot of air and cleaned the keys. Brilliant results the laptop fan is alot more quieter as a result. Any idea how to fix the laptop battery which I pointed out above?

Install anyway, use regularly, by preventing the junk building up, will help slow down the pc from slowing down :D

    I do.

    From the HP site.

Try that and see how you get on. It sounds right, not near my Laptop to try it.

Edit:The reinstall may have sorted this anyway.

Cheers for your help mate :)

Final question I accidently removed the "down arrow" and the "right arrow" key on my laptop. I've got all the pieces put away safely just don't know how to put them back on  any pointers on how this is done?

    Snap.
It's very annoying and every laptop is different.

Generally put the steel bit and plastic in place, and push down gently until clicks in place.
Lots of patience and be gentle, don't break them.
If it doesn't work then just leave it until someone you know can do it for you.

Balls! it turns out i'm missing both wee plastic clips. I've got the keys just the clips. If I brought the laptop down to PC world would they be able to put the keys back on? Any idea how much it'd cost?

Out of curiosity how did you knock the keys off?

You may get lucky if you go to one of the bigger Stores maybe, ask in the PC World Forum.

I wouldn't have a clue as to cost...try and find a broken Laptop somewhere maybe aswell.

Maybe, try them when they are not busy like early in the day.

Laptopkeys.com if you do have to buy from somewhere, I've never used them myself though.

I wouldn't be suprised if you were told you had to buy a whole new Keyboard.....try local recycling centre also.
