Silly question but where is the transmission fluid refill container on a skoda Octavia 2003 tdi. Is it the one with the symbol of a steering wheel on it.
I keep getting the warning light on. Reckoned it was the brake and clutch fluid as filling that knocks it off temporarily. But I wanna make sure its not the transmission fluid.
So how do I find it. No online manuals available

Is it an auto or a manual. What does the light look like?

its manual. Its a red light on the dashboard. Same light as the hand brake light. It doesnt give me much choices on the skoda. a red circle with an exclamation mark in the middle.

If it sounds an alarm and flashes then sounds like your brake fluid is low.

What made you think it was transmission fluid. That's the brake fluid warning. you have a leak. do the brakes or clutch feel different? Either way, bring it to a mechanic. You shouldn't try to fix this yourself.

thats deffo brake fluid mate. if it was transmission fluid you don't get a warning light instead you hear a loud bang, loose all power and your wife says
"darling did you leave this ring and pinion in my footwell?"

I have got to ask the question, why, oh why would you think the light with a steering wheel symbol on it relates to the transmission? If it's the same light as your handbrake light, it's most likely the front pads have worn down to the contacts and tripped the warning light.

Ahem good lady! If you read my original post I assumed it was the brake and clutch fluid and i never mentioned a light with a steering wheel icon only a container. On a side note I was wondering where the container for the transmission fluid was on the engine. Anyway Ive been refilling the brake fluid. The sponge in the container takes a few seconds to soak the refill in so I've been checking every now and again to see the level on the side. I might have a leak as some said as I filled it with half a small container last week when the light went off for the first time.

No different feeling no. Brakes and clutch feel fine. Might be a leak and my topping up is keeping the light off. Will follow your advise if it continues to happen. But where in the engine is the container for the transmission fluid. Is it the container with the steering wheel symbol and a drop over it?

    Sir??

Ahem yourself, the very first line of your post reads...

Fair enough, you didn't mention a light with the symbol on it, you mention a container. my question still applies.

Most people would read that the way I read it?
As I said already, check your brake pads as well.

And you've repeated the question in the post above! Brake fluid level will drop a tiny bit as your pads wear because the brake pistons need to move the pads closer to the discs.
    You'd best seek professional advice.

Jeez don't be touchy. I changed almost immediately after reading your username. And before you corrected or cruxcified me. And I don't see how it could be misconstrued nobody else did. Please be helpful.

No you didn't spiggot! Do you happen to k ow what the container with the steering wheel and the drop icon is for? If there's no transfer fluid container. How is that topped up. Before my ring and pinion fall out.

Thanks spiggot. Won't be touching that area. Looks a bit hardcore porn for me. Will focus on the brake guide as the problem. Might have a leak or as housewife roared at me might have a problem. With brake pads. With keep an eyes on the levels.

are you having a wind up? the container with the steering wheel is for the power steering fluid. and i attatched pics of where your gear oil goes on my last post.

Why am I being cruxcified here. Having no wind up. Haven't a clue about cars. I thanked your the photos and the effort you took is appreciated. I honestly didn't know it was for power steering fluid.

okay so no prob. but seriously, get your car looked at, if you are loosing brake fluid. it should never need to be topped up.

you should only top it up to drive it to a garage.
