    really gets me ,

I hate having to judge whether they're close enough or not to justify holding the door.

i know the feeling is there like a 2 meter rule lol nothing worse than been nice holding it open and awaiting the person to arrive lol

I think it's awkward when people hold the door open for me. Sometimes they expect me to walk in behind them, other times they stand there expecting me to go first. Then other times they see me coming from 500m away and stand there staring at me for about 5 minutes as I walk towards them.

It's easier to just open the door myself tbh.

The akward moment when either you hold the door or someone else is nice enough to hold the door and they've to do a fast walk cos they're miles away!

Hate when you hold the door and a line of people pass through, don't say thanks and you're left there standing like a fool of a doorman.

I used to do stuff cause it's nice, and gave out about people on boards who got pissed off about not getting any thanks. but because it's been said so much, recently I realised when I did something like offer my seat up or hold a door open etc, not one person said thanks, or even acknowledged that I did something nice for them, and it's now pissing me off that it pisses me off. so I'm just not going to do anything for anyone.

What I love to do is act like I'm holding the door open then slam it closed as someone is about to come in, hilarious.

Nah, I just slam it back violently in their face.
    Take that, common courtesy.

No, what's worse is when someone holds the door for you even though your 50 yards away, and you feel you have to hurry so as not to keep them waiting!

Was walking through some doors the other day, girl behind me, i held the first one for her, she said thanks, held another door for her immediately after that, she didn't say thanks. Spent about 30 seconds wondering if she should have said thanks for both doors, said thanks once for the second door that was clearly coming or did she handle the situation correctly by just the thanks the first time, the second thanks being implied by the fact that i already know she is the type of person who is grateful to have doors held open for her.

    Good thread.

Had a great one couple years back, doing the polite thing held the door open for someone, she then verbally attacks me saying she is capable of doing it herself and not to be so sexist.

Wish I had the wit to have a come back but I was just shocked by it.

I hear that! Now when people wave me out at a busy junction I just flip them the finger. That'll teach them!

*chick silence and likely dirty look for no reason other than they are a c.unt *

    *me, loud enough to hear*

TBH I get enough doors let slam on me, enough people do enough things to get in my way all the time that no I don't feel an obligation to be nice to every one. i'm going back to the way I was before, if I want to do something for someone, I'll do it. If I catch myself thinking whether or not they said thanks then I'm not doing it for the right reasons.

It's even worse when you didn't want to go in there, but feel obliged to enter the building just in case they think you're a cnut for walking by.
Still, wouldn't have had a look around Ann Summers if not for the kindness of strangers.

****ing doors, why don't they just leave them open so we can avoid this kind of awkwardness?

the automatic doors, that I don't hold open? no. it'd be fairly odd if they did. I would laugh and point, I'd imagine.

I have absent mindedly said 'thanks' to ATM machines in front of people before. More than one occasion. Embarrassing. No pointing though, thankfully.
