Wedding reception venues Wicklow/Wexford.

    Hi,

I'm getting married next July, and am in the middle of searching for suitable venues.

I've got the list of hotels, appointments to view set up, I've spent hours setting up templates in excel to compare venues and their features against each other.

We've a very modest budget & tastes, but I'm daunted by the fact that despite the amount of 'homework' I do, there's a real element of chance when it comes to how good the hotel will be.

We've seen around five hotels so far, and nothing's jumping out at us. I've noticed that a lot of the hotels have similiar pricing structures, just the extras vary.

I suppose what I'm saying in a long winded way is, can I get some recommendations from personal experience, please? We're looking at venues in Wicklow and Wexford - realistically we'll probably go with somewhere in Wexford - the venues seem to offer more value for money.

Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong area.

    Thanks guys :)

We looked down around that area aswell!!!!!

Brooklodge is nice but they kind of messed us around a little.

They offered us several discounts / deals when we went to view the venue first and they said initially they were willing to reduce minimum numbers for our wedding (we expected about 80 at our wedding at the time) so that we could get married in high season at the weekend.

At this point they also listed several dates which were available for us that we were to consider. We were really happy and wanted to go ahead with booking the wedding with them but when I emailed them they refused to stand by anything that had been offered to us with regards to the offers, discounts and availability. I had everything confirmed in writing from them so when I forwarded this to them they said there must have been a misunderstanding (if there was it wasn't on our side). But it was a lovely place, and I've heard really good things from other people, I think maybe we were unlucky. I know people who have gotten married there and people who will be getting married there and there were all good reports.

Seemed they were offering us things to lure us in but then weren't willing to stand by it so this left a bad taste in my mouth.

We also went to see Ballybeg House which was nice too and were willing to work with us on prices. This place has always come very highly recommended but my OH didn't like it so we didn't go with it in the end. But the setting of it was lovely. Gorgeous views from it.

My favorite was Marlfield House in Courtown. The staff were really good THE FOOD WAS AMAZING and they had all kinds of different packages that would suit different budgets. Everything there is really relaxed and comfortable.

I hope this helps you a little, good luck with the venue searching!!!!!

Wow well done, you sound really organised! I've been to a few weddings in the Summerhill House in Wicklow and I personally adore it. Beautiful location and small classic hotel so there thends to be pretty much just your wedding party there

Marlfield would have been one of my favourites to view, so please do consider it. It was a bit far for us so we never went, but thought it looked amazing from the pictures and reports have been positive.
Brooklodge we quite liked, especially that it's all organic produce and the civil "church" on the grounds is lovely. It wasn't private enough for what I wanted though, as the main hotel still goes on as normal. I know the ballroom is separate anyway, but I guess I kinda want the carpark to ourselves too...
We saw Summerhill and thought it was lovely. The lady that met us though was completely cold and didn't seem at all interested in getting our business. We had an appointment and I swear we barely got 10 mins out of her. I know there was a wedding party checking out from the night before, but that's no excuse, as at other hotels we were always given enough time, at least half hour, even if there were people checking out etc... I think it's quite telling when they offer you a cup of tea with a biscuit (Brooklodge, Mount Falcon, Killashee for example :)), vs a quick brush off (Summerhill ).
Anyway, that was just my feeling there. I didn't stay to find out of there was anything else nice about the place, I thought it looked lovely and the prices were reasonable. We knew people who got married there (they were local though) and were happy with it. But, if she's not gonna give me the time of day for my custom I think I'll take my hard-earned cash to where they deserve it and want to earn it.

Don't overlook Sean Og's in Kilmuckridge, I have booked my wedding there for next year and have to say they are very reasonable and accomadating. It has everything to offer as regards, reception room, ball room, bridal suite and bars. They don't have extensive amounts of rooms to offer but have the cottages available instead.

And the packages available are fantastic, might not be everyones taste but worth a look..
