If I plug my wifi ipad 2 into my iPhone in an area within Ireland that doesn't have wifi, i.e. Using my phone as a Hotspot. Am I charged extra on my iPhone bill?

    Thanks!

You can't "plug in" the iPhone into the iPad, but rather wirelessly connect the two together through WiFi. Who is your mobile phone provider?

Ok so if I wirelessly connect it, is it possible I won't get charged extra. My provider is O2.

Not sure about O2 myself, different carriers have different policies and pricing about tethering. Someone else might be able to help you on it, but I think they do charge you.

This is not possible, as you cannot pair your ipad with the iphone via bluetooth (which is needed to initiate the network interface).

So your question is pretty hypothetical.

Turn on Personal Hotspot in iPhone settings. It will will work either via Bluetooth or WiFi on the iPhone 4, but only Bluetooth on the 3GS. Afaik you won't get charged extra on O2 if you have a data add-on. I have the 250MB add-on and I don't get charged.

Yes you can. Hotspot is done via WiFi, Bluetooth or USB.

You WILL get charged for the data, you pay for any data that goes through your phone.

It's very easy to use a lot of data this way and depending on your O2 plan you could be charged a lot of money. Especially on a newer plan that may only have 150MB of data included for a month. Which could be used up in a day.

I'm with O2 and in general they shaft you for anything like this. They are not the people to be with for flexible data use.

I connect my 3GS to my iPad using bluetooth.
There is no charge by Three for unlimited data on Billpay.
I moved from Vodafone as they charge for tethering.
