Possible to transfer to another course?

    Just a quick question: if you've started in one course in UCD is it possible to transfer to another once the year has started if places became available?

    And if so, who would you approach about it?

    Thanks in advance :)

    It depends on what programme you're interested and what programme you're already registered for.

    If you want to transfer, say, from a denominated art/science programme to an omnibus arts/science programme, then it shouldn't be a problem as long as you have the necessary prerequisite modules to progress to the next stage.

    If this is the case, then if might be possible for you to follow an internal transfer route. You can apply for an internal transfer from semester 1 to semester 2 of the new programme or between stages (say, from stage 1 of your current programme to stage 2 of the new one).

    Note: You will only be offered a place on this new programme if;

    (a) you have have passed the prerequisite modules to progress in the new programme,
    (b) the points for the new programme,
    (c) if there are enough places on the new programme, and,
    (d) you have attained at least a 2.0 GPA in your semester 1 examinations (for in-stage transfer) or at least 50 credits by the end of stage 1 (for a between stages transfer).

    You do NOT need to re-apply to the CAO for an internal transfer.

    You can get more information on internal transfers here: https://myucd.ucd.ie/programme_info/transfer.ezc

    If the programme you want is completely unrelated to the programme you were offered (i.e., if your current programme has little or no prerequisite modules in the new programme that will allow you to progress to the next stage), then you have to re-apply to the CAO for next year and see if you'll get an offer for the new programme then. In the interim period, you can still attend college, even if you've put through a new CAO application.

    I would advise that you to talk to the UCD Admission Office and discuss your case with them further before you make any move. Go to the Student Desk in the Tierney building, e-mail them at admissions@ucd.ie or call them on +353-(0)1-716 1608 to talk to them in detail about it.
