The app is as accurate as the last GPS reading it got from the phone. That could be within a few meters or a wider area depending on how long it was able to work.

last location was where it was robbed.
say its turned on in the morning, will i be able to see it location?

If its on for long enough to get a GPS reading and internet connected long enough to get that to the service, then yes. If the phone has been stolen however, there is a chance the phone could just be connected to iTunes and restored without either of those happening.

There is also the chance the scumbag that stole it mightn't be savvy enough. My advice, get the location, it's usually within metres, and take it from there. If it was my phone I'd take the law into my own hands and crack a few skulls, let alone brick every window in the house. The law is not on your side in this case and you must act accordingly.

problem is, it wont narrow it down to a particular house.
Im in my house now, and my app is sayin my phone is around the corner on another road (but within 50m or so).

That's probably based on wifi access point data. If you give it a few minutes it should get a more accurate location from a gps satellite.

Good man, i left it for 30 seconds and its now showing as out my back garden, i think thats a good enough location to narrow it down to my house :D

    that was over WiFi.
Tried it on the phones network too, and it was even more acurate.
Just had my faith in this app restored :D

unless you had the "Find My iPhone" app already installed and activated, then i dont think you can, sorry.

    have you tried calling it?

I have 2 iPhones using the same apple ID. My own and my GF's. When I open the find my iPhone app it gives me the location of both handsets.... Think about the spying potential there if you were that way inclined. I can literally at any time tell where my GF is (and she for me) if we have our phones with us.
    Hmmmm.

ditto for the new "find my friends" app if you have it set up that way.

Yes, but AppleIDs are meant to be personal and not shared. Your privacy problem stems from you using it wrong.

I don't consider it a problem. I see it as a benefit if anything.
As for 1 ID on both phones... Why pay for some apps twice?

Nice Idea. Don't think it would help if the phone was stolen ha ha unless the person had real ball to give it back for the reward.

Will the phone send it position if is put in DFU mode?

Bit late for it now, but http://www.instamapper.com/ is free & gives realtime tracking, (with history), not just where it is right now.

Looks like a good service. Lot of benefit over find my iPhone although I think it would be a bit drain on battery life. GPS would need to be enabled a lot

On the other hand I use this for all 8 of my devices (nice to see my MacBook and mac mini on there at last) plus those devices of 5 of my friends who are either inept or so digitally lazy that they will not set them up themselves. So I occasionally monitor them for them on request.

Then the law will definitely not be on your side and you will likely be prosecuted for criminal damage, at least.

I suppose you could tape a Trackstick Mini to the back of your phone and hope the thief doesn't notice it. That could actually work seeing as how small the device is. http://www.trackstick.com
