Came home this morning to find my ex-girlfriend had gotten at my stuff and smashed up about €2,000 worth of stuff(mainly musical equipment)
Didn't ring the guards or anything, but pictured and catalogued everything with prices used and new. Is it possible to take a civil case, or do i have to report the incident to the guards for that to even go through?
And is it possible to do a civil case without a solicitor, as i just couldn't afford a solicitor.
    Thanks in advance!

Is there a time limit before I can go the guards? and I don't want her to get a criminal record. Kinda just want to be reimbursed for the damages.

Personally I'd threaten to go to the guards unless she reimburses you. Hope she caves and cuts out all legal fees

The longer you leave it may impact on how seriously its investigated, if you waited a couple of months you could expect to be asked why the delay.

There is no time limit before or after. If there is delay it may affect your credibility. You should make a statement to the guards immediately. If your ex ponies up you can have tell the guards that you are now satisfied to let the matter rest.
