Does anybody know if I need to get a visa for an overnight stopover in Hong Kong on the way to Australia. The plan is to spend a day or 2 in Hong Kong and fly on. Any tips on what to do or see would be appreciated as well.

If you have an Irish/EU passport , then no you do not need a visa for HK

If you want to cross into China then you may need a visa ( I think you do , I had to get one but it may have changed )

you won't need a visa for hong kong or macau. if you want to go over the border to china, you can get a visa at the crossing.
