Last night i was watching the Arnie Swarzernegger (?) movie 'The 6th Day'

At the start of the film there's quite a bit in it about pet cloning, his daughter's dog had died and his wife wanted it cloned as not to upset her, he didn't, saying it was part of nature, life & death etc.

If pet cloning became common place and was proved to work 100% would you consider having a loved pet cloned??

It really got me thinking, i'd love to have my pet back but would i want a clone? It would be her and it wouldn't if you get my drift.

What's all your opinions on this?

I've added a poll, with an extra option if you don't really care

Would you have a clone of a loved pet that has died? 34 votes

no a clone could never replace your original dog personality wise or anything, may look the same buts its not. just my opinion

My dog is a mongrel, he's a mix between a Samoyed and a Labrador maybe, maybe Pyrenees mountain dog in there. He was a rescued dog. Anyway he is the most beautiful dog in the world because of it! So that would make me consider it, he's really lovely.

But he is also like the best behaved dog, such a great personality. Best dog in the world. Cloning won't replicate that. I don't think I could bond with his clone, I'd resent him or something.

If it was possible, its a bad idea.

I'd clone Tegan. Not only is she super cute (imo), she's very sweet. I'd love to have gotten her as a baby so I could have socialised her with other dogs and she'd be the best dog in the world then.

Ah, now I feel bad for not cloning Rani...

    Very good point.
I feel exactly the same way, even with almost identical dogs of the same breed there are those little physical differences that mark out each dog as an individual.
I would find it very hard to have an identical physical copy of any of my dogs and wonder how it would effect the bond, seeing one dog physically yet dealing with a different personality, resentment could well creep in.

When my Logan dies I would love to have the ability to clone him. We got him from the pound at the age of roughly 4 so I would have loved to see him as a puppy. In whatever home he was originally in he was beaten then he was bounced from pound to pound (presumably) because he has some major issues so when he got a home, they couldn't handle him so he would be returned or sent to a different one which just made all his problems worse. He was really aggressive with large old men but that's fine now. He's extremely dog aggressive and with training we had that under control and he was relatively fine but we moved and he now doesn't have the same interaction with dogs on a regular basis so he's slipped. But now he's like 11 so we're just going to let him live out his old age in peace. He's good with our dogs and he rarely encounters others and when he does we can handle it, he's just not going to go off playing with them any time soon.

I would love to see what a wonderful dog he would be without that baggage, if we had been the only owners. When we first got him, he didn't understand playing, now he loves fetch and stuff like that. He really wants to play with the other dogs but he doesn't know how and generally just scares them or just stands there confused. It makes me teary every time I think about it. I love him to bits but I would love to have seen him if we had had him from the very start

No. I love my Bobby, but if I could have cloned a pet I had I would have cloned my first dog Heinz 20 years ago and then never had the pleasure of Sasha, Stan, Jackie, Deisel, Tux or Bobby, who have each been brilliant in their own way, and likewise if I cloned Bobby, I'm sure I'd miss out on more brilliant dogs or cats who will be part of my life later on!

I don't think I would clone any of my dogs, though I love them dearly. I think part of that love and bond I have with them is because I know I only have a short while with them and no dog could replace them not even their clone :)

I don't think I would, my dogs are a product of their experiences... A cloned dog would never be the same. I adore their individual quirks that makes them, them and would worry that I wouldn't have the same bond as I would be expecting dog number 1 reactions from dog number 2.

i think no because if you want a dog that looks exactly the same you can more or less get it without a clone but it would be the personality that i would miss the most and that cant be cloned

It's wouldn't be the same dog though. I wouldn't be able to do it myself.
