Retainer and teeth

Hi, I wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas about my situation or has experienced the same thing.

I'm a medical card patient and a few years ago when I started college I finally got an appointment with an orthodonist for my teeth and he decided to give me a retainer. I had, for want of a better description , 'buck-teeth', my front teeth protruded out further than the rest. Mainly the front 2 incisors but the first 4-6 teeth gradually protrude out and id been mocked all my childhood for it, and i hated how i looked in photos and just felt not good about myself. anyway after wearing my braces for a year or so, my teeth pulled back a bit and i was happier with my appearance and how my teeth felt.
Anyway, the appointments became less frequent and i was down to just wearing the retainer at night and i did this. however alot happened in the time that i wasnt called back and i moved to a different county for a different college etc.. and i never heard back from them, usually with medical card these things take a lot longer and you just have to wait for them to get back to you. I was busy with college etc... and in that time a wisdom tooth grew in and i found that my retainer wouldnt fit in anymore, so i couldnt wear it. I didnt hear anything, and i didnt know what to do. Anyway in the last year my teeth have slowly pushed back to where they were and i just feel really really horrible.

Is there anyway i can just get my retainer tweaked or something? without having to pay for a new one...i have no money and i have no way of getting any. has anyone had this done?
