    Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of help here. My wives 2004 Micra is having a lot of problems lately. It keeps conking out while driving. It could have 2 or 3 times in a 30 min journey and then it would happen again for a week or so. I've had the camshaft and crankshaft sensors changed but still no change. When it cuts out she has to bring it to a complete stop, turn the key off for a few seconds and turn it back on again. It'll then drive fine untill the bext time it happens.

    Any ideas?????

If its not a sparking issue ie you have changed the crankshaft and camshaft sensor the next place i would be looking at is a fuel pump as those symptoms you described sound like one.Either way without hooking it up to a computer your shooting in the dark

sounds like dirt in the injectors but check the fuel pump first thats your best bet

Presumably faults have been recorded previously with the cam and crank sensors if they were changed, if this is the case and changing them had no effect, then the common stretched timing chain is likely to be the fault.

Computer was put onto the car and the faults identified were cam and crankshaft. I was talking to someone over the weekend and they recon the timing chain is stretched also. I hear its a labour intensive job to change. I priced the chain and it's only 40. Nissan Doctor have you any idea how much it would cost to fit it.

    Thanks for your help

Almost certainly the chain so, Its a bit more involved then a timing belt alright but its not too bad. Nissan will tell you that the engine has to come out to change it but it can be done without removing the engine no problem. When doing that amount of stripping its advised to change the whole chain system not just the chain itself, i.e, chain tensioner, guides, pullies etc. O.E quality aftermarket kits are available for just over €100 from memory.
