I am helping to put on a Talent Show and retro 70's & 80's Disco, to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society.

I would love to print some posters of familiar icons from this era, however I was raised in the UK and alot of what I fondly remember are not recognized here!

Can anyone give me some advice on what toys, foods, popular tv shows, sweets etc were most popular and bring back that ole nostalgic feeling for you? Maybe I can then get some images to print off!

    Thanks

    Great idea,and fantastic cause.

Would suggest getting your hands on Reeling in The Years,70s and 80s DVDs,maybe in your local library.Have a quick flick through for relevant figureheads from era.
TV-some memories here in other posts: The Riordans,Glenroe,Bosco,Anything Goes,MTUSA
As for food/drink,probably much the same as you growing up in England.
    Peggy's leg,bull's eyes sweets,snowball(still around),crispy pancakes,Martini,Dubonnet,....
There are some pubs around with retro style. If you've time, head up to Morrisey's pub Abbeyleix in Laois- so quaint and retro- if you don't get ideas /inspiration there,I don't know where you'll get it.

    Best of luck.

I agree with, rubadub. Most things in the UK would have been here as well.

Name some things and we'll let you know if we know them.

Wow, thanks guys.... loads of ideas there!

msthe80s - thanks for the tip and the wishes! Morriseys eh? shame I wont make it there before the event, might need it after though! :D

rubadub & Little Alex - I agree with you, but surprisingly was met with blank faces when I showed a picture of 'Mr Ben' a childrens cartoon, 'Smash' Mash, and 'The six million dollar man' just as examples...

vektarman - Thanks for the link.. got a good picture of the chopper now. Always wanted one... never got one. I remember the cool gear shift.....

What about any programmes on TV? Any ideas on those?

I used to have a red Six Million Dollar Man costume when I was about five... Gentlemen, we can rebuild him, we have the technology...

The Cadbury's Smash ads with the alien robots would be well known, too.

I'm from Dublin, though. Maybe some parts of the country didn't have BBC and ITV back then?
