PC engine "EverDrive" coming soon

For those with a PC Engine, Krikzz has completed the PCB development of a PC Engine Hu EverDrive. Looks like he still has to develop the OS software that runs on the PC Engine, but should not be too long hopefully.

This might persuade some people to pick up a PC Engine now. What do you Retro Gamers think is the best model to purchase - the DUO, DUOR or DUORX and what do you think is fair price for the consoles?

Nice news on the Everdrive, though I doubt I'd use one really as I prefer to use original media.

As for which model to buy, I have the Duo-R. The R and RX are exactly the same model minus very minor aesthetic differences plus the RX was shipped with a 6 button pad.

Price wise for either a Duo, Duo-R or Duo-RX, expect to pay anywhere between €120-€300 + shipping depending on condition.

If they can make one for the US machine then I can play all the jap games, hooray!
No disk images though, not without the extra hardware, boooo!

I wonder if it will be the US machine, or the Jap one?
Which one offers the larger market?

It would be hard to do disk images since an extra ram cart goes in the card slot and the data is piped in through a separate port.

Shopping around at the moment for one. Do many games take advantage of the 6 buttons or would the standard 2 button suffice for most games?

Personally I use a stick or pad, all are two button. Depends what you want to play really.

Thanks Pyongyang. I bought this one for 200 including delivery here -> http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220872359833
Its a DUO-RX. It doesn't have a box but all the others on sale at the moment on EBAY had yellowing..

Now I just need to find some games, more pads, a 220v power supply, an RGB mod guide...

Welcome to the PC Engine club! Way to make an entrance too with the top of the line model!

Don't forget, if you ever buy any Arcade titles you will need to buy the Arcade Duo card (the blue one) else they won't work. Even on an RX.

    Congratulations again!

Think of all the jap only games with translation patches that you are missing out on, not only on the pc engine but the sfc and md too. I do like buying original software myself, original media is good but when it comes down to it, playing on original hardware is what makes the real difference.

Or, alternatively, own a Wii that can run homebrew!

90%+ of the titles I buy are shooting games so I'm not too fussed about translation patches in that respect although I understand your point. I have a game hopefully arriving next week, sorry two games, that I have bought and will put translation patches on them though.

As an aside, I don't collect NTSC-J role playing games. As lovely as the artwork is, it's not a worthwhile investment. I don't get time to invest in RPG titles any more anyway.

I love the concept of emulation in general, I have played games I never would have played because of the hardware/software setup costs. Long live wii homebrew, it's not perfect but it a great platform for emulation.

The joy of wedded bliss, a grueling workload and owning a dog with a stupid fat head. Sums up my life.......but there's always room for shooting games. :D

Anyways, delighted to see an increase in PC Engine ownership on these forums. Such a great machine, delighted to see more gamers enjoying the treasures it has to offer too. :)

I have a half decent pocket collection going on but yet to invest in anything bigger. I have the perfect fix for you though as a shmups fan on a tight schedule:)

Awesome game, I have it on PC Engine and also as part of the PSP Soldier Best Collection. There is a high score thread running on it now if you are keen? :)

I have the jap gamecube version myself, looks really well. Picked it up for around a tenner from Ebay, money well spent:D

Ah, great news. I posted on the thread on his forums about guessing what the next Everdrive would be, recommending a Hucard flash cart but, after buying my first HuCard game and receiving it this week and it not working I'm a little worried as I have no way to check if the HuCard itself is to blame or if it's my machine.

Did you clean all the card contacts? Failing that a few people here have a console you could test it on.

What game is it and what console do you have out of interest?

Contacts cleaned, aye. It's Street Fighter II Champion Edition and it's a Duo-RX. I know the Arcade Duo card I got with it works as when I put in an Arcade CD-ROM without it, the games don't work so, there's a strong doubt there that it's the machine.

I got the CD booting problem sorted with Rondo of Blood, and now this.

Possibly a dodgy card but you would be at peace of mind testing it in another machine.

If it was a Super Grafx game I would understand as those only work on a Super Grafx console regardless.
