Rang a oftec reg plumber for a boiler service. Lest msg on phone and he rang back, saying I missed your call there, someone looking for a boiler service.

He was due to do it today but rang me to say he can't make it but can do it in the morning. I asked him to leave it till next week.

Thing is I don't feel this is getting off to a good start at all. He has never once bothered to call me by name.

And he has not said how much this would cost. (I know I should have asked myself but I mentioned another tiny prob with a leak) and thought maybe he was just coming out to look and discuss first but seems he was going ahead.

I'm feeling uncomfortable now about engaging this person.

    what do ye think....

Don't know if you use oil or gas but I think Airtricity & Bord Gais are doing reasonable service offers at the mo and you don't have to be a customer, might be worth a look at their websites

Why would you pay 70-100 euro for a 40 euro service?

Op, i never call my customers by their first name and you are looking for a service when engineers are starting to become busy and he could cover the service the next day, why don't you confirm costs with him before he calls or try another Oftec engineer and confirm work/price . From the other side of things it's very common to call to do a service and find it's a boiler defect and not a service which effects timings for later calls.

if you are not confident then trust your instinct then or you will always say that you regretted not canceling

in fairness to the man though
    he returned your call
he then let you know he couldnt make the appointment

when he phoned you he probably didnt take note of your name(i never have a pen handy/in an attic up a ladder or something)

i would give him the benefit

He missed your call but rang you back .... Probably in the middle of doing another service .
He did ring you today to re-arrange , he even offered to do it on a saturday.

He probably forgot your name , anyway its buisness i dont think hes out to be your friend.

You say yourself that you didnt ask him how much the service would cost , fixing a leak does not come under a service call .

You say that you thought he was going to come out for a look and a discussion first , did you ask him to just come out and look ( i wouldnt think hes a mind reader) , its a boiler service , what is there to look at , he could look at the leak when hes doing the service , it wouldnt pay the bills to go to somebodys house to "look and discuss" a boiler service and as you say ". a tiny prob with a leak".

I dont know why you feel uncomfortable about this guy , i feel sorry for him going to work for you , he did nothing wrong .

Well he rang me as promised this week on the Wednesday and asked me when would I like the service done.

We agreed on today and he said he would ring me on the morning about the time and I said anytime after 2pm is grand, and he knows I'm only there in the afternoons.

I'm waiting since 2pm and no show and no phone call!

i know that is just part of my reply and then i said to give him a chance
i wouldnt let him near it now if thats his customer service
a call to say he was held up is the least he could do
    sorry danjo-xx

I think when I clarified the price (€80) which is fine, or more likely when I asked would I be getting a full service, e.g nozzle replacement and filter cleaning, stuff like that..... this may have put him off either that or he got a bigger job.

Anyway he wont be getting his hands on my boiler thats for sure!
