    Hi all,

Just looking to pick your brains on a heating question.

We recently got an old house in a village. Its an old house and we're doing some minor repairs before moving in.

The thing is, the heating system was worked off the fireplace.

Its a small house 3 small bedrooms about 1000sq foot.
The rads and pipe work are working fine when the fire is lighting, but we want to replace the back boiler system with oil heating.
We dont have a current budget for this so its all down to money.

Does anyone know what it would cost (estimate) for an oil boiler and also is it possible to fit an oil burner into our existing system or will we have to change the lot..?

    Thanks for any help

You can use all the existing piping and rads, if you go down the DIY route it should cost €1900/€2000.

If the back boiler works well I would be slow to discard it. why not just add an oil boiler to the system. It would mean a dual coil cylinder and running pipe work from proposed location of oil to cylinder. This is more expensive then just replacing a back boiler to an oil boiler.

+1, But I would add have the entire system power flushed and pressure tested.

OP said it was an old house, I would always hesitate before power flushing an old system, may cause a lot of problems (but flushing where possible of course it the correct option)
