Iphone 3Gs not charging

A month ago I spilt water on the docking station I use to charge my iphone at night. That led to issues charging my phone with constant error messages saying 'charging is not supported with this accessory'. I found a solution online whereby I had to clean the power socket with a toothbrush. this worked like a charm until the last few days.

Now the phone will not reacognise any charger weather it be from a docking station, laptop or wall socket. I've tried used different usb leads as well. I presume I have damaged the power socket on the phone(I can see a pink dot under the power socket on the phone)

Is there anything I can do myself or do I need to drop it in somewhere to be fixed(if it can be) The phone is completely dead now. I work on Dorset street in Dublin.

It could also be battery failure. I put my iP4 in the washing machine by accident and it prevented the phone from taking charge. I bought a replacement battery on eBay (EUR 6.00 each) and swapped them at home in 10 mins - it works like new again.
