Hey Gang, will be in dublin ie Blackrock clinic with my wife on saturday, I'll have a few hours to kill while I wait for her, was hoping to go for a run, any suggestions or routes you could suggest, is there anything along the seaside, nothing to long, a nice out and back for a 10/14k total would suit, any help you can offer appreciated

    thanks

You can head north bound along the coast towards the docks, it's a nice enough run via Booterstown and Sandymount and you can do a loop around the nature reserve by Sean Moore Park and right up to the light house if you're feeling adventurous. I'm pretty sure you'll have road/footpath as far as the Merrion Gates but from there you can run along the strand.

Or head south, if you cross over the road outside the Clinic there is an enterance into Blackrock park, head down the path an turn right towards Blackrock, the path will take you to the dart starion and then you can run along Idrone terrace and then take a left onto Newtown Ave. ( this keeps you out of blackrock village), follow this and then turn left onto Seapoint ave, around 1k down this road you can go over the dart line and then follow the coast on non traffic roads into Dun Laoghaire where you can run to the end of the pier. (there and back is around 12k

edit: here is a map my run link

The great thing about both routes and the general location is that once you
stick to the coast, you cant get too lost.

Run to a DART station and get the train back to Booterstown (I think this is closer to Blackrock Clinic than Blackrock station), or the other way around.

Blackrock clininc to the Poolbeg lighthouse and back is about 10 miles and tbh, running on the great south wall isn't really that pleasant, the surface is very uneven.

Glad someone else suggested it. I'd deffo recommend running all the way out along the South bank to the lighthouse. It is cobblestone but its a unique view of the city. If you dont fancy it, just turn back at Poolbeg power station.

    hi
I live around the corner and have been running in both directions. Although heading North is pretty cool, there is a longuish stretch where you have to go run by the busy road (Rock road?), and there are a bit too many walkers etc on the Sandymount promenade for my liking (but you can always run on the sand which is pretty cool!). And the park and road leading to the lighthouse seem a bit rough to me at certain times of the day (maybe 'cos I am a woman).
I think running towards Dun L. and beyond is quieter, feels safer (to me) and there is a public loo on the way, too!! between Seapoint + Salthill/Monkstown dart station. And like the others said, you can always take the Dart back if you had enough.
