Best indie/alternative club in London?

What's the best Indie/Alternative music club in London? I'm mainly into stuff like The Libertines, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Rage Against The Machine, New Order, Nirvana, Modest Mouse etc. What places are busy and play stuff like that? Something like the equivalent of Antics in Crawdaddy or the Roisin Dubh in Galway? Feedback appreciated!

Kilburn is prob the best spot in my opinion..The Good Ship http://www.thegoodship.co.uk/ and across the road you've got Powers http://www.myspace.com/powerskilburn.

The Kings Head and Luminaire venue used to be really great but it has since closed down (gutted!!)

Camden has tonnes of bars, the Barfly http://www.barflyclub.com/camden/whatson/WhatsOn.aspx
, Purple Turtle http://www.purpleturtlecamden.co.uk/ and a host of others in between. Oh and the Wheelbarrow's cool, we managed to stumble up on a free White Denim gig there a few months back! http://www.wheelbarrowlondon.com/

Personally I prefer those to the 'trendy' Shoreditchy places.. you'll find somewhere in Shoreditch/Dalston but you might need super skinny trousers and massively big hair to even get within a glance of the place ;)

Kilburn's pretty good alright, although I reckon it's probably second to Camden based purely on the number of venues.

Camden's usually jammers and you'll be dealing with trendier-than-thou prats depending on where you go, but the World's End or the Dublin Castle sound right up your alley, OP. There are plenty of other places around as well, and a whole boatload of gigs happening round there on a regular basis (eg Alkaline Trio are playing the Barfly in a few weeks).

I know its not on again till next year, but the Camden Crawl would be right up your street - http://www.thecamdencrawl.com/

I went this year... a lot of fun and a lot of walking between venues...a bit like Elec Pic but with pub venues!

Oxjam as well is great, but over for this year...
