Micra or Getz?

    Hi all,

I'm buying a newer car (currently have a Punto) within the next week or two, and I'm thinking of getting a Nissan Micra (1 litre) or a Hyundai Getz (1.1 litre). I have a budget of around €3000. I don't do a lot of driving (<5000 miles a year) and most of the driving I do is through the city which is why I want a small car (along with cheaper tax/insurance). The things that are a must in the new car are central locking & electric windows, and a small engine.

The reason its between the Getz & the Micra is because both cars seem to be reliable from what I've read (I may be mistaken here!), but I'd definitely consider other cars.

Just curious to hear any opinions/experience/problems any of you may have/had with either car mentioned above, or other cars I may be overlooking.

    Looking forward to your replies!

    I'd go with a Getz.

Capable little car. Feels bigger than it is too.

    +1

I'd certainly take a Getz over a Micra

^Thanks for your replies, I actually prefer the Getz as well, I find the micra a bit ugly.

There is a Getz that i have my eyes on but since doing a check on it, I've found that it has had 6 owners and its a 2005 car, this has put me off the car even though I really like it but in its favour is a recent NCT.

Would such a high number of owners put you off a car, basically 6 owners in 6 years?

Personally no but it may put others off

Owners doesn't matter. My car is 2 years old and I'm the 3rd owner. If it checks out and the cars sound owners doesn't matter.

getz is a solid little yolk. a 3 door in red dosent look bad either.

6 owners in 6 years is not normal. There's plenty cars out there, walk away.
It isn't as simple as someone owning it for 12 months 6 times.

Getz is a fine small car.

Thats a fair amount of owners...

If you do a car history report you can see exactly when the car was sold etc...

So you know exactly how long each owner had the car for... one owner could possibly have been a private dealer making a profit on the car...

As long as she's checked out by a good mechanic and checks out, what does it matter how many owners?
With things as they are these days, people sometimes have no option but to sell a newer car and get a cheaper one, job losses, more taxes...
Wouldn't let the owners thing put me off though.

My mother previously owned a Getz and I thought it was the worst car ever! Made a lot of noise, could not go over a bump without throwing you around the place and just felt sick being inside it. Have a few friends who have/had Micra's and I think its an all round better car.

Six owners in six years stretches the bounds of plausibility in my book. It's not a rare or extraordinary car so find another.

Would have to disagree with the above criticisms of The ride and noise levels.
These things are subjective of course but being thrown around the place would point to a failing in the particular car or dare I say - driver

I've driven and sold lots of these and this is the first criticism I've heard on either front

On the other hand, my missus has a micra 1.0 and It's both noisy and bouncy - but nothing she can't handle!

Just did a motorcheck.ie report on the Getz, here are the dates of sale. Car was registered :17/08/2005

    27/05/2011
    24/03/2011
    12/06/2009
    25/03/2009
    06/11/2007
    30/07/2007
    21/12/2006

Some owners kept onto it for a good while. The car wasn't taxed for a period between mid '09 - late '10/beginning '11. NCT is fine, and the car has just over 30,000 miles on the clock.

If you buy it, you'll be the 4th person to own it this year. In the name of all that is holy, run away from this yoke as fast as you can

Is there any service history to back up the mileage?

    I'd get a getz!!

Haven't actually spoken to the owner of the car so don't know service history, but I know that he isn't Irish, its being used daily and it got its NCT at the start of last month, know this because I pass it at least once everyday on my way home. I pulled up on front of the car a couple days ago, it has one or two small dents on the exterior and from what I could see the inside looks to be in excellent condition. I also happen to know that he's been trying to sell it for the past month.

I have my eye on a couple of other cars (9 to be exact :p) but this was on the top of the list until I saw the amount of owners.
