I'm in a bit of a pickle atm, left work today went into a shop came out and the car would not start, it's a 2003 Nissan Almera 1.5.

I don't think its the battery as all the lights, electric windows, etc are working but the radio is not coming on atall.

I turn the key and the only sound is of the radiator fan coming on, when I turn on the key it says "please wait" then 2 mins later it say "secure" on the dash screen.

    I'm baffled

    Help please.

Sounds like it might be an immobiliser problem. Off to the garage I'd say.

What would cause the immobiliser to cut in?

Sounds like the 03 Almera we had at home back in the day. It's a PITA problem. Nissan doc will prob be able to sort you out.

    Now I'm no expert but:

There is a chip in the key that the immobiliser communicates with. If said chip is not present or there is a problem with the communication between the key and the immobiliser it will prevent the car from starting.

If you have a spare key try to start the car with it.

Yep have a spare but the same thing is happening, don't know if the spare is even coded tbh.

The central locking is not working either so this would suggest a problem with the key?

It sounds like it could be a problem with the cars imobiliser alright. Less likey to be a key problem if both keys don't work.

Needs diagnostics to go any further unfortunatly.

Found out today that the problem was the BCM (body control unit) needs replacing at a cost of €470. Lovely.

Try getting secondhand BCM ? Will probably need to be coded to the car but a tech savvy independent guy might be able to sort out. Got one done a while back on a 04 Micra. People said it couldn't be done but the right guy sorted it.
