    Arghh!!!!

I've just turned on a Windows 7 machine here and the user name coming onscreen is not mine.

Trying for the life of me to figure out how to switch users so I can log on with my account.

    Anybody got an idea?

Start Button (usually in the bottom left), hover over the arrow next to "Shut Down" and select "Log Off". That'll bring you back to the welcome screen you see when you start the computer

It wants log in someone else's name. I'm not able to change the log in name.

I'm still on the log in window, I'm not even on the desk top yet!

press the escape key and then switch user, crisis averted... ;)

and when you go to shut doen the computer, if it asks do you still want to shut down while other users are logged on and that they'll lose any unsaved data if you do, i'd suggest you go right ahead and shut down.

If you don't have a Switch User button or an "other user" option, you need to go and talk to whoever looks after the machines/domain.

You might be able to use Ctrl-Alt-Del (I had to hit it twice for some reason on this XP machine) to get a traditional login: password: prompt. Especially on a domain...

    That's normal for XP home.
