Does anyone have any experience ordering items without VAT/MWST using an Irish VAT number. I haven't been able to find anything on the site. Did I miss something during the checkout, or do I have to e-mail them, or what?

As far as I am aware, they have an Irish VAT registration number, so Intra-Community VAT rules do not apply, allowing them to charge you 21% VAT.

However, I may be wrong, someone else might know better?

I think you're mixing them up with OCUK, they've always charged me German rates of VAT

@OP If you're buying from them and are VAT registered you need to declare it to Irish Revenue and pay VAT on importing it.

I buy from them regularly EX VAT.

I set up an account with them as normal.
I then called them and gave them my VAT details.

I just buy as normal and when I get to the checkout I put the VAT number in the comments and manually calculate the VAT, (Quoted Price + €30 (shipping) / 1.19), and include that in the comment.

    E.g If the quote is €500, I pay €500 + €30 / 1.19 = €445.38.

When I get the e-mail with payment details, it has the VAT inclusive price, but I just transfer the EX-VAT amount and it has been okay every time.

Can this be done retrospectively to get a vat refund or something? I bought from them ~3 weeks ago

I think you'll have to claim it on your next VAT return. Not much Hardwareversand can do for you.

    Hello Prospect

Do you have to do anything (like acknowledge it) on your Irish vat3 return (and payslip)

    Hi,

I just ordered from Hardwareversand.de and the answer to the VAT question is:

    1. After you have placed your order, but before you pay, phone them, and request that the order be changed to VAT free for delivery to Ireland.
    2. They will ask for your Irish VAT number, and their accounts department will verify whether the invoice/delivery address on the order matches the address linked to your VAT number on the European Commission Database: http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/
    3. Assuming it does, they will update the order with the new amount, email it to you, and you can proceed to make the bank transfer and await delivery.

    Hope that helps,

    Rory

Would I be able to use my friends VAT number and have him order for me as he has a small business.

Suppose that I would then have to order everything in his name and on his address though, but would that be possible, or would he or I get in to trouble then?

It's illegal, but you will probably get away with it. It's on you if you want to take that risk. Make sure your friend knows though if you are doing it!!!

I just talked with my dad about this because he actually has his own small business as well, but he lives in The Netherlands.
So I'm just calculating if it would save me money having him order my computer and then have him send it to Ireland after it arrives in Holland.

He explained how it (normally) works in Holland though, which is that you always buy everything including tax and that you can then afterwards get it back.

So then I'm wondering how that works as HWVS actually give you the 19% (or 21% in netherlands?) discount on ordering already.
What would they then do with that information, or how would they then get the 19% back from the Dutch VAT services? If even?

He also stated that in Holland they are strict with computers and that they normally give back 50% VAT if it's for private use (bought through the company) and that you otherwise have to be able to 'demonstrate/show' it is for business use.
