Doing Fás Course. Not entitled to Jobseekers :(

Hi guys, I got my means test in the post today which came out as €199, and to be able to earn Jobseekers I have to have a maximum means of €100.

I have never received Dole/Jobseekers/College Grants etc, but have also never worked. I am 19 years old.

At the moment I am taking a year out of college. I got a job with a local company which first has a 10 week training course before the job starts in January. I started it this past Monday. The training also earns you a Level 5 Fetac qualification in Customer Care. Fás pay everyone for the course, but you have to be entitled to Jobseekers to receive payment.

One of the bosses at work told me a couple of days ago, even if the Employment Office at home, but €1 into a petrol allowance, that Fás will still pay the €188 for the course to me. A woman working for Fás also said this is true. Now though, I see I can't receive any JSA. Do you think if I went into my local Employment Office with the Fás form that they would even just put any number into the box that says Petrol Allowance. In the end of the day, they won't be paying me anything anyway. It is Fás.

I know I passed the means test thing, but I still hate having to ask Mam and Dad for money the whole time when I am 19.

If anybody could help, I'd be grateful.

    Kind Regards

I think youre screwed, but , you have a job guaranteed....? That fact may help you bargain... But I doubt it.technicly you don't exist in statistical terms , your not on live registre, there is a huge tightening of who gets what....so if you are on registre and you do a course , government get credit..but as I say if you could say I am only lookin for help for a very short time....a slim chance

I am on the live Register as from the 6th of November I think. I have to go into the Employment Office on that day.

oh fml :( Yes, the job is guaranteed, pending that my attendance for the course is fine etc and that I pass it, which 99% of people do I'd say.

Is it that much of an ordeal for them to just put even €1 in an allowance for Petrol in the F103 form since they won't be paying it anyway?

Does it help that I'd know a couple of people well that work in the Employment Office?

ffs, this is a disaster for me if I can't get it sorted out. Even though I passed that means test thing, I have petrol etc to pay. :(

I don't see why they wouldn't help as they don't pay anything. The woman from Fás said that they happily pay it as long as there is any number whatsoever on the F103 form :(

Yes it would be an ordeal, as they would be assisting you in committing SW fraud.
It doesn't help that you know people working there - I'm sure they wouldn't put their jobs on the line to help you get paid for a FAS course.

Mod Note: Any other suggestions along this line will be viewed as fraud, and will result in bannings from this forum. Posters are reminded to read the forum charter before posting.

I think you'll do well to heed this advice , you have a job on horizon, times are tough but as above poster states ... Your inference is fraudulent, even if your not intentionally meaning to do so , you could be jeopardising your entitlements in future.
If I was you I'd hibernate for a few weeks....and heed the warnings...
