Itunes Backup not backing up all device data

    Hello All,

So I have a weird problem. I have an Ipad 2 bought in the US in May. I have only ever been successful with the initial backup when I bought the device.

Since then I have upgraded the IOS twice and each time the so called backup that was taken before the upgrade contains only the factory shipped data and nothing else (e.g. all my data/apps etc).

To top it off I upgraded to IOS 5 this morning, the backup started as normal (or so i thought) and the green progress bar on a seperate box began to move from left to right (again as any progress bar should).

So when it came to restore my backup after the upgrade naturally i picked the latest timestamp, and a couple of mins later I was left with a factory set Ipad 2 upgraded to IOS 5.

What the hell is going on, why is the backup folder (windows 7) only containing the data from a factory set Ipad and not one that has over 10GB of apps alone.

Please help, I lost all my game saves config etc again this morning :(

    B

Hmmm. In iTunes you can have more than one backup file.

If you go into Edit; Preferences; Devices - is there more than one option?

Maybe you're using an old one...

Thanks for the reply, I wish it was that simple. The only thing I didnt mention in my original is that I also sync my iphone 3gs from the same computer/library/apple ID. Again I dont think thats the issue either.

Every attempt(right click in the device name in itunes and selecting BACKUP) to perform a backup of my 10.9GB of data sitting on my ipad 2 results in a backup file(seen in the directory location on win7) of 39mb. Surely there is something not right (p.s. itunes is obviously upgraded to 10.5 aswell).

    Any other suggestions.

Media files like movies and music aren't part of the backup, but provided they've been successfully synced with iTunes, they will be restored along with everything else based on setting saved in the backup.

Ah yes - if you sync movies/music manually (by having that box checked in iTunes) then you'll need to manually drag and drop them all back onto your iPad from within iTunes after a restore from backup.

Does the backup at least restore all your apps and personal settings?

    Thanks Mr Professor,

I have no movies or other types of media on my Ipad 2, its only apps for ipad all 10.9GB worth.

So I assume one has to say that a backup taken from the device should contain all the data related to my apps (10.9GB). so how come the restore (and subsequent backup attempts) only have a back up size of 40Mb or so. surely this is not a delta backup therefore small data backed up.

    Thanks

No the backup does not contain any personal or apps, it is like taking the Ipad fresh out of the box e.g. a factory restore to the default apps.
