I am married with 4 kids, my wife was made redundant at the start of this year and is recieving unemployment assistance. I am working part time so she is loosing some money for each child because of this, however my work has been cut even shorter now and i do 2 days at the weekend and a few hours on thursday and friday. Can I ask for her claim to be reassessed as I am no longer working full time as I was when her original claim was submitted? Also my job may be coming to an end in the near future, would I be able to claim under my wifes claim as a dependant adult and how much would we be entitled to as a family?
I have tried to look some of this up but it can get confusing going from document to document.
    Thanks.

At the moment, you may be well advised to apply for FIS, especially as you have 4 kids.

You should ask to be re means tested under you current means. it only seems to take 3 weeks at the most, the main thing is getting in all the new payslips etc.

You should get the claim revised due to your changed circumstances and she may also be entitled to claim for you.If your jobs ended you can go as a dependant on her claim or you might be entitled to claim for yourself.
if you are working more than 19hrs per week apply for FIS.

I have sent away the fis forms but I hear there is a very long wait to hear if I qualify. In the mean time I was going to go to the dole to ask about my reduced hours. I was looking at the page On welfare.ie about qualified adult payments and I was wondering if the total amount I earn all week is counted or just what is earned Monday to Friday. I work Thursday to Sunday so it would make a big difference to my total.

I am presuming that you may also be entitled to jobseekers benefit... if that is the case you should make a claim for casual jobseekers...you may get more on casual jobseekers than FIS and jobseekers should come through quicker. You can hedge you bets and still let your FIS claim go through as if FIS is more beneficial to your situation then FIS will be applied when it is approved but in the meantime apply for jobseekers benefit.

I dont know if I am entitled to that as a qualified adult. I thought I could not have a separate claim from my wife. I also found out yesterday that I am not entitled to a place on a job bridge intern-ship either as I am not signing on my own.

From what I have read from your previous posts you are not on your wifes claim as a qualified adult. Your wife is getting reduced child rate due to your earnings. Can you clarify if you are on your wifes benefit claim as an ada or not and if you are it would be at a reduced rate.

You can make your own claim and then you may qualify for jobbridge.

Sorry, I probably didn't make myself very clear. I am not on my wife's claim as I was working full time all summer. I am now working about 25 hours a week, sometimes 20, 2 of these days being Saturday and Sunday, accounting for 6 hours each day. My wife is loosing money for the kids due to my working during the summer, I am not sure how much.

When were your days reduced? How many days a week do you work and what days do you work on top of Sat & Sun? You should be able to make a claim for jobseekers benefit in your own right.

Ok you should really have made a jobseekers benefit claim for yourself in september. My advice to you would be for you and your wife to call into your local sw office and explain the current situation...you may now be added as an ada to your wifes claim and she may also get an increased rate for children. Ask about making a claim yourself also. The only problem I can see with you making your claim now is that your work pattern is really a 3/4 day week, you should really have made your claim in September when your days were reduced.

Since my last post I have been reduced to about 12 hours a week on saturday and sunday. My wifes claim has increased by about €140 to about €380. I think I am about to loose my job altogether so will my be entitled to much more or am we at the maximum payment.

You can go on your wifes claim as an adult dependant and with 4 children sw payment should be €432. But if you both have an entitlement to jobseekers benefit it may be more beneficial to you both having your own claims and claiming half rate for each child as you will both receive €188 + €60 approx which would bring the total payment to the household to €495 approx as a maximum payment ceiling does not apply to jobseekers benefit and when you wifes benefit is exhausted she can either go as an ada on your claim or apply for jobseekers allowance which is means tested but their will be a max payment situation for her once she goes on allowance.
