Under European Union rules, the microchipped cards will carry details of drivers' penalty points. Gardaí will be able to use the credit-card sized licences to check up on wider details of the motorists' record…

Ireland will begin phasing in a new style of driving licence from next year.

Under European Union rules, the microchipped cards will carry details of drivers' penalty points.

Gardaí will be able to use the credit-card sized licences to check up on wider details of the motorists' record on the road.

good thing, I had to "shave" a few mill of nine on the top and bottom and as well as the platic cover,to make it fit in my wallet tidy.........the credit card style would be great.
