    Hi there
I run a small business and purchased a server three years ago. Spec is below, prices are in sterling. I also had to purchase a SQL Server 2005 Processor license which cost £5000 (sterling). We have run into financial difficulty.

Is there any re-sale value on this equipment, as we no longer need it.

Where is the best place to advertise this equipment if there is.

HP ProLiant DL380 G5 Rack Server
    Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor E5335 (2.00 GHz, 80 Watts, 1333 FSB)

I'll give you 20e for it, if you can deliver to Dublin City Center....

    Edit:

Just as a note both of CarePaq & Win Vol Lic are worthless since the HP is expired and you can't transfer either {plus Win Vol Cal is not anywhere near 660e}.

    HP 3Y 4H 24x7 CarePaq
    1
    650.00
    650.00
Additional Windows Server License on Volume License Agreement.
    1
    605.00
    605.00

Throw it up on Advert.ie to see if you can get a better offer but don't hold your breath....

Check on eBay, the biggest killer for anyone buying one of those secondhand is shipping, they weight a lot and can cost quite a bit to ship.

What normal i advise the customers is to keep the server for the Liquidator report...they can be shown on the final note and based on the original invoice... can have a real "face value" than advertising it on the adverts !!

Isnt the SQL Server processor license worth something though, seeing as I paid £5000 for it?

Surely someone who needs a database server could make use of this?

Please paid for a non-transferable license to run SQL on that Server so it is worth less to anybody else.

Technically even if you sell the Hardware the buyer would have to re-license Windows & SQL again.

limklad1974, where was your server hosted all the time?
Is there any warranty remaining on it?

    Thank you,

Worthless - Microsoft software licences are non transferable. Most small businesses would have used mySQL for free.

    donedeal.ie ?

The hardware is worth more than €100 in fairness.

The server itself is probably worth 300-400 euro.

If it's an OEM copy then bound to the motherboard of that machine :(

If it's retail then it would be worth some of the difference between a full copy of SQL and a upgrade copy of SQL if that exists.

If bought under a volume license not sure what the ramifications of transferring ownership are. ( there were court cases in the US not sure how they ended )

If the license is transferrable then might it be of value to someone runing a legacy system for example with dual cpu as a way to enable both cpu's as a quick upgrade ?

It's noisy if you're putting it in your bedroom. These servers belong in datacentres or smaller comms rooms.

It's worth an awful lot more than €100 and the RAM can be easily upgraded. Maybe sell it to a specialist liquidation company rather than adverts or eBay.

It's worth €500 tops, licenses are non-transferable. The server below has 8Gb RAM, it's as noisy as hell for any home user, if someone gives you €400 bit their hand off...
