Trouble changing to an iCloud-friendly Apple ID

Tried setting up iCloud on my iPhone 4 and MB Pro.

Keeps telling me that my existing Apple ID is no good - the user name must be an e-mail address. My current one is just 'maninblack'. Fair enough.

When I log into the Apple ID site to edit my username, there's a handy option to 'convert my existing username to my default email address'. Grand job.

However, when I click submit, it just hangs and nothing happens. Tried manually editing my username to match my email address but it won't allow me! Says the e-mail is already registered to an Apple ID (Obviously, mine!)

Any ideas? This whole upgrading to iOS5 has just been one headache after another!!

The servers are taking a hammering at the moment which may account for this problem. I'd recommend trying again tomorrow.
