This thing warrants/will warrant a standalone thread when people see it

I erm previewed it last Saturday and quickly there after pre-order it on Blu-Ray.

The documentary to my mind is the best thing WWE documentary wise has ever released. Especially the last 1hr 20mins that discusses the disintegration of the friendship of Shawn & Bret, Montreal, the fallout and then finally them making up.

Just giving my personal viewing experience here but I watched the Blu Ray release of the extraordinary documentary "Senna" among the stories told in it was the Alain Prost vs Ayrton Senna rivalry back to back with the Greatest Rivalries documentary. In it Prost had an ally/friend in Formula 1 President and fellow Frenchman Jean-Marie Balestre. Balestre essentially screwed Senna manipulating the World Championship in favor of Prost, as Senna was disqualified from race victory, fined, and suspended. I couldnt help but make the parrell between the two documentaries.

On Senna it is one of those truly great documentaries that works on the level of fan and non-fan alike. Highly recommended.

How long is the documentary portion, do you know? I sometimes find them to be a bit short.

Just watched the interview. It's about two hours and twenty minutes long.

    It's really good.

I thought it was nice to hear Bret and Shawn talking frankly about their careers but I didn't learn anything new reallly. Shawn talks about himself quite detached ('how i was back then') but both are at peace and so agree on everything. ('we both agreed to say this but we both got hurt about what was said'). It's clear that both (especially Bret, but especially Shawn!) were constantly looking for validation from the other ('i just wanted Bret Hart to like me'/'i was looking for your respect') and it's interesting to see the detachment of the wrestler and superstar; i imagine for all their arrogance and celebrity, they're insecure about their work. or at least enough to crave acceptance/approval.

I think it's an interesting watch but i wasn't blown away by it. Maybe it's because I'm a bit bret fan so have heard many of his interviews before. But i'm glad u really enjoyed it!

No retail stores take a while to stock WWE DVDs wait 4-8 weeks. But you will pay over the odds retail in the main. Silvervision has free shipping.

So is everyone getting the blu ray version? Never buy blu rays but this could be worth it

it's mostly a 3-shot interview setup with JR on one side and HBK beside Hart, they do cut to video packages which are a few minutes in length. It's not a must-buy in blu-ray but if it's a similar enough price, HD is always awesome. But honestly with a few pics this could do as an audiobook instead.

Interesting notes from the Miami Herald:
Bret Hart talked about what was cut from the "Rivalries" DVD with Shawn Michaels in an interview with Scott Fishman of the Miami Herald promoting the forthcoming DVD release.

“There was a lot of stuff that didn’t make the cut. I think that maybe it was redundant, but there was more talk about Shawn’s role in things and he went into much more detail about his drug problems, which was what the excuse for his behavior was back then," Hart said That was not shown as much in the DVD. That is fine with me, and I’m not complaining about that. Maybe it was repeated enough times that they didn’t need it in there. It was sort of said in its own way anyway.

“Shawn came very honest and upfront that day at the studio. He was very relaxed. We had a lot of pleasantries and easy-going conversations between takes. I felt very comfortable.”

Is there much on the blu ray version that is not included on the DVD edition?

    Thought it had arrived :(

I ordered the DVDs last Tuesday. They were dispatched on Wednesday and they arrived today.

Bit silly sending me an email saying my 3 DVDs had been dispatched when the Bret Vs Shawn one wasn't.

Haven't seen the Senna documentary but from reading about it there seems to have been more than a little bias in it.

And? It is a documentary about Senna. *Shrugs*

    It is excellent regardless.

Summer Slam 92 is my favourite match of theirs. Heenan on commentary is brilliant.

Its stunning, I loved every second. You could not fail to deliver when the subject is as compelling as Senna.

Got around to watching this this evening.

Really enjoyed it I have to say. It was good to hear both sides of the story and I thought JR was a very good interviewer and didn't hold back with his questions.

Hope they release some more "Greatest Rivalries" DVDs. Austin Vs Rock one would be class.

must be a Kliq thing - Nash can't do it either, you know? :D

^ Nash starts every promo with "you know". In fact a crap load of wrestlers do.

Anyway, watched this during the week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think Bret came across as a bit of an ass in truth. He seemed less willing that Shawn to take ownership of their varying mistakes. Maybe its because Bret was screwed at the time, but he did not endear himself to me in the interview at all. Which I am not pleased with.

Anyway, excellent watch. It is a must see if you are a wrestling fan really.

He certainly didnt meet Shawn half way did he? He just left Shawn hanging there.

Just after dl'ing this now and have watched the first hour or so and it's very good.

Shawn seems to be at ease with how much of a prick he was back then and has no problems admitting it,while Bret still seems to think that he was 100% right about the pricky things he did.
