    Hi Chefkid

Try to identify the stamps you have by accessing a catalogue such as Stanley Gibbons which may be available in your local library. Even if the catalogue is a few years old, it will give some idea as to value. In general, catalogue values tend to be much higher than retail values.

If the collection appears to be "junior" in nature, i.e. a small number of stamps from a large number of countries and with variable condition, then the collection is unlikely to be of value. Not all "old" stamps are valuable and condition is normally a high level factor here too.

Another good option is to check on-line sites such as Ebay or Delcampe to see if identical stamps can be found there. Again, check the condition of the stamps you have as compared to the stamps on sale.

Finally, if you have no idea as to what the collection is worth, you could bring it to a stamp dealer in Dublin or Cork for an appraisal. The national stamp exhibition, Stampa, is on in Dublin in the RDS the weekend after next and dealers there would be used to being shown collections for a general appraisal.

    Hope this helps.
