N11 to M50 to town - Naas or Lucan Roads?

    Hi there

I will start commuting from Kilpedder (Co Wicklow) to near Hueston Station next week. Whilst I am looking at Public Transport options (Wicklow Bus 133 & LUAS), Dublin Bus 145 from Kilmacanogue, Drive to Red Cow Carpark and get the LUAS, I imagine I will just end up driving at least some of the time.

So with that in mind, which exit is my best option (traffic wise - I am aware that neither will be pretty!) to get close to Heuston Station in the mornings, the Naas Road or Lucan Road exit off the M50 and are there any particularly bad times to avoid?

    Cheers!

N4/Lucan Road will be better traffic wise. Main delays on it inbound in the mornings are at the Palmerston lights, which you'll be effectively joining the N4 at, and down Johns Road West to Heuston itself. Its DC the entire way.

Naas road in to Heuston would be nearly solid traffic the entire way, single lane per side and then single carriageway from the Long Mile all the way through Inchicore to Heuston.

The N4 is busier than normal at the moment with the Phoenix Park roadworks, however.

Don't know if this is any help - but sure how and ever:
If I commute from Naas to Heuston (where I sometimes park), it depends on the time of the morning I'm on the route. If I set off before 7am, I'll be in Heuston at 7.30. If I set off slightly after 7am (like even 7.05, 7.10) a 30 min journey becomes 40 mins. Worst jams are near Bluebell long mile road (traffic only has one line beside the luas line) and near heuston - one long line of slow moving traffic always.

Do you have free parking when you get to town?

If I was gonna be paying for parking in town then I'd do the Redcow park-n-ride and the LUAS in. It's generally comfortable enough as far as Heuston (can be unbearable between Heuston and Abbey St)

Would DART + Luas make sense? Change at Tara Street and walk to Abbey Street.

Thanks guys. I tried the bus to town and LUAS option and it took me just over an hour and a half. Had to get the DART home and it was even slower.

Drove in today (left home at 7am) via M50 and Lucan Road and got to car park (thankfully I have access to limited parking) by 7.50. I think that answers that then. Will just have to get out of bed a bit earlier and drive, much as it pains me!
