    Hi

Sorry If i am in the wrong section for this post but it is the nearest i could find for my question. My father own a hyundai tucson gls 2 litre diesel car and it has being making a whining noise that seems to be coming from the engine. My father is a mechanic by trade and can't seem to track the problem down. he has checked the exhaust and has changed the timing belt as he taught it might be coming from a roller. He has supicions over the turbo but is not overly familiar with changing this and would like to know if anyone has came across this problem before and the cost of changing it. the car is of the year 2006 and has clocked up roughly 100,000km. He bought the car brand new so is the only ever owner of the car

    Regards

    Colm Towey

Does the sound rise and fall with engine speed or with road speed or is it constant? Under what circumstances does it arise or seem worst?

    Hi thanks for the reply.
The more the accelerator is pressed the louder the noise becomes. This happens when the car is moving or not moving

So your father is a qualified mechanic, yet you have come to the internet to ask what to do about a "noise from the engine"?

I don't mean to be snarky, but what do you possibly expect us to tell you? It could be anything, and the best advice we could give is bring it to a qualified mechanic. Most of the replies so far and in the future will be things that a mechanic will already have checked.

Hi there, Midlandsm made a fair point, But to ad to that what I'd recomend is to check the power steering fluid level before anything is done, if thats o'k then continue to remove the power steering belt and start the engine, If no noise then the power steering pump or something thats run off the same belt is at fault, spin all the tentioners and pumps etc. by hand and see if there's any unusual noise from them,

In my opinion I doubt it's a turbo that is at fault, If the vehicle mileage is correct and the oil has been changed on time the turbo should be fine, Power steering fluid with air or contamination in it will make the pump whine too.

    Hi,

I'm looking for any advise anyone might be able to give on this!

I have a 2001 Volkswagen Golf CL and the night the bad flooding in Dublin I was driving on the N11 when my wipers stopped working. Traffic was really heavy and I couldn't see a thing the rain was so bad that I just pulled in to the bus lane and ended up driving through about 2-3 feet of water (I didn't see it until I was in the middle of it). My car made it through and I eventually got the car home. I had driven the car a few times in the following few days and it was fine so I didn't think there is any damage from the water.

Then two and a half weeks after the flood my car wouldn't start, turned out the battery was flat, but was okay once jump started so maybe I left the lights on or something.

Trying to fix the wipers was a nightmare as the wiper motor was really hard to get at but I could see the motor was working so I just had to reconnect the wipers to the motor and the wipers are working again. While I spent about two hours fixing the wiper, my car key (not the master key) was in the ignition. Then when i went to start the car it would not start and looking at the symbols that are appearing it looks like the car's immobilizer has been activated. I got the master key and it wouldn't work but then I discovered they were was no battery in the master key.

I now cannot find anywhere that sells this battery. Its a "Varta V 625 U'. I've tried ringing a few Volkswagen dealers and two of them are to get back to me if they can get this battery for me!

If anyone knows where I could get one of these batteries I'd really appreciate if you could let me know?

Also, someone mentioned to me the only other option would be to get the immobilizer reset. Does anyone know how much this costs?

I just have my fingers crossed that if I get a battery for the master key the immobilizer will deactivate once I put the key in the ignition.

    Cheers,

A chemist should sell them or maybe a big electrical retailer, possibly jewellars too. They can be bought off Ebay easy enough http://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=Varta+V+625+U%27

The battery is also called PX625, LR9 by other brands, might be easier getting one of these.

The aircon pulleys can give trouble in these, think there was a recall on the bolt that holds the pulley on. Try turning the a/c on and off and see if the noise goes out of it, alternatively check for any rusty deposits on the face of the a/c pulley - a sign of a damaged pulley.

If the bolt cannot be removed, a new a/c compressor will have to be purchased.

Have you tried Maplins for the battery ?
