    Hi All,
I got a quote for my house which is approx 1600 sq ft. today and for the cavity wall insulation i was quoted €1975 before the grant.
They are using thermobead made in dungarvan.
Currently have 50mm in cavity wall.
    Is this a fair price?
Is this thermobead recommended or is there better?
I am told each room needs vents,is this correct?
Main attic has 20" insulation already covering 80% of the main attic.
Second attic has 4" and size is approx 12 x 9

    Regards,

    KMB

You can put the vents in the windows and they are closeable so no big deal. Price seems high to be honest. Thermal conductivity is 0.033 which is about as good as you can get for this type of product.

you should make sure that your chosen product suits your home:) I've PM'd you the cert as were not meant to mention product names here.. read the parts pertaining to the free space required in the cavity, site exposure and type of plaster etc and if you go ahead with them the spaces and treatment of holes an so on..

have a read around boards.ie there are loads of treads about cavity ins

can't tell if this is a good price because you have mentioned your attic also is this part of the deal? best to approximate the wall area for a per msq cost..

yes each room needs a vent, i presume your home is existing so the other posters window vent solution will only work if you were changing them.

what were the other quoted prices you got of the other 2 or 3 installers you tendered to?

Hi there, be forwarned, I got a company down from ************ to get my cavity wall insulation done and they did a terrible job on it, It cost me nearly €2,300 to get my 1998 4 bedroom semi detached cavity filled with ************* and my attic insulation uprgaded by a company called *********************

They destroyed my brick work and made a mess of re-filling the holes they drilled in the plaster on the exterior of the house, I got no hop off them when I complained,

I was over charged by about €800 and to top it off when we had a builder in to install a new window in an existing wall he found that they had hardly put any insulation in the cavities at all,
Once again I phoned ****************** and got no hop.

    Cow boys.

Can you give an approximate location for part of the country you are in, Might help on avoiding this operator as I am thinking of getting this job done.
