You can try start windows normally if it fails then you can try pressing F8 when you start up the machine which will bring up the boot menu.

From there you can try "last known good configuration"
    you can try safe mode.

If it won't let you get into any of these options without crashing and wont let you do a repair then you may have to try to restore the system using the cd's supplied unless your computer came with a partition for restoring the machine.

If you do this you will most likely lose your data on the laptop if you need to back it up then i may be advised to bring it to a repair shop or have someone who knows what there doing back it up for you.

If your son hit it then there could be a hardware damage and I would advise getting someone to look at it.

Well, it looks like hdd problem. IMO you can diagnose it or repair it by yourself. If you want I can tell you how to do this step by step.

Sorry don't know anywhere to get repairs done in limerick,

If its just the operating system then you can repair it yourself by doing a restore try looking for all the cd's you got with your laptop and see if you have a recovery cd.

You may have a recovery partition you can always call toshiba technical support even if your laptop is out of warranty they can still talk you through restoring the operating system.

A 2.5" hard drive costs roughly €40-50 to buy, on a laptop its easy to replace the underside usually has 3 panels with 4-5 screws 1 will be the ram and 1 will be the HDD. the HDD is usually screwed done if you remove the 2 screws holding the HDD you can slide it out and replace it.

You would still have to reload the Operating system on the new HDD.

I have a Toshiba Satellite and I had a HDD problem...just brought it back and got it replaced as it was still under warranty...

My HDD was damaged by myself(well I'm 99% sure I damaged it myself) but just didn't mention that to the guy in the shop...

    Is yours still under warranty?

Sounds like a hardware issue alright mate, did you not buy an extended warranty when you purchased the laptop mate?

Its a physical issue...It seems to sound like you've a problem with your harddrive. In order to fix it, it will probably mean a new harddrive, then you'll need to get an OS to install on it...so it could be quiet costly

not necessarily mate, it could just be a small issue best to get it checked out first and get the potential cost of repair...its very hard for us on the thread to give 100% accurate feedback without having the laptop in our hands
