What are you waiting for, check your Software Update!
The 10.7.2 update is recommended for all OS X Lion users and includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac. It also includes support for iCloud, a breakthrough set of free cloud services that automatically and wirelessly store your content on iCloud and push it to all of your devices. iCloud on OS X Lion includes the following features:
iCloud stores your email, calendars, contacts, Safari bookmarks, and Safari Reading List and automatically pushes them to all your devices.
Back to My Mac provides remote access to your Mac from another Mac anywhere on the Internet.
Find My Mac helps find a missing Mac by locating it on a map and allows you to remotely lock the Mac or wipe all its data.
Getting started with iCloud is easy. After installing the update, OS X will automatically present an iCloud setup panel. Simply enter an existing Apple ID or create a new one and then follow the on screen instructions. To learn more about iCloud visit http://www.apple.com/icloud.

The 10.7.2 update also includes Safari 5.1.1 as well as fixes that:
Allow reordering of desktop spaces and full screen apps in Mission Control.
Enable dragging files between desktop spaces and full screen apps.
Address an issue that causes the menu bar to not appear in full screen apps.
Improve the compatibility of Google contact syncing in Address Book.
Address an issue that causes Keynote to become temporarily unresponsive.
    Improve VoiceOver compatibility with Launchpad.
Address an issue that causes a delay in accessing the network after waking from sleep.
Enable booting in to Lion Recovery from a locally attached Time Machine backup drive.
Resolve an issue that causes screen zoom to stop working.
    Improve Active Directory integration.

Thats pretty impressive response time! I have waited all day for 10.7.2 in the hope that it will sort my Active Directory integration problems. Update only mentions iCloud and Safari.

Update is 535.5MB on my MBP and 784.5MB on my MBA. Was flying along with about 15 minutes remaining and then the iOS downloaders started hammering the servers. Now 2 hours remaining.

I'm showing 3 hours for 888MB on my MBP and simultaneously downloading iOS5 which is also due in 3 hours.

Finished installing on MBP. However, MBA got a checksum error and have to download all over again. Annoying!

    Folks I have two questions....

    1. Does anyone know if there is an option to revert back to Mobileme?

    And

    2. I have Lion on the iMac and MBP but I have an iPhone 3G running on 4.2.1.
I presume I'm screwed for syncing calendars, contacts etc?

Once you've migrated your MobileMe account to iCloud, no, I'm pretty sure there isn't.

Syncing from iCloud to the iPhone 3G? Yes, you're screwed. :D iCloud is iOS 5 only. But those thing should still sync when you physically connect your iPhone to iTunes.

Cheers SP, figured that was the case.

Think I'll stay the way I am with MM until next June.
Hmmmm... good excuse to get an iPhone 4:D

    Is Software Update showing anything?

Ah nuts, paused the download of iOS in iTunes to prioritise another download and when I looked to start again it said zero kb of... (stopped).

So now I have to start again from scratch. Apple you have a lot to learn yet!

Is it possible to download 10.7.2 and not migrate to/set up iCloud, and continue to use MobileMe?

Yes. You don't have to use iCloud if you don't want to. After you install 10.7.2 you will be given an option to login to iCloud. The MobileMe preference panel is still there, so you should be able to continue using it.

Afaik the two accounts are separate anyway. iCloud uses your Apple ID which MobileMe accounts weren't previously connected to and still aren't afaik. Apple are apparently working on a way to merge them. But it's probably best that you don't attempt to use both at the same time.

Good stuff, I have two MobileMe accounts (an older one for personal use, and a newer one for my business name), and I've had three Apple ID's over the years (long story), with some songs/films/apps purchased on different ones, so I want to see how things will work out, before jumping into the iCloud just yet.

Was just about to post a 'WTF, where is my iCloud icon in system preferences?' thread.

Downloading the update now and I have IOS 5 up and running on the phone, although some posters in the Apple Devices forum are having issues.

I don't know why I'm so eager to get iCloud working, I already use Dropbox.

    I am distinctly underwhelmed.

I can see anyway to upload my video clips from my Mac to the cloud and download them from another machine. Do I have to go through iTunes?

iCloud isn't like DropBox or iDisk. It's not a folder in the cloud into which you can drop whatever you want. It's purely for synching data between apps on various devices. It's not designed to replace DropBox. In fact, Apple tried to buy DropBox but they refused.

Is there a way, without accessing the web interface, to download Pages documents on 10.7.2?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 22,693 CMod ✭✭✭✭Sad Professor

I don't think so. Not until Pages is updated with iCloud support.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭miralize

Ugh.. you'd think Apple would have considered that today. Knowing my luck, they'll update to Pages 11, which involves buying a new copy :(

iPages is updated as is the other iWorks on the iPad. Didn't check the OSX app yet, but I suspect it is integrated into the OS update.

Yeah, I know the iPad version was updated, but the OS X version hasn't yet. It wasn't part of the 10.7.2 update. It will arrive separately, same as iPhoto.

Is it me or have the icons in Launchpad been made bigger in 10.7.2?

Yeah, I noticed that. They are definitely a lot bigger than before.

I've just noticed that they reintroduced swiping back and forward in iTunes. Now if only they'd do it with the App Store things would start to be more consistent across the OS.
