Has anyone a spare copy of Snow leopard Need a copy to get lion. Kind of pointless buying snow leopard when I wont even used it, just need it to get lion.

Use it.

That won't work. According to the Apple Store page you linked to you still need Snow Leopard.

System Requirements
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)

For upgrading, yes. But the USB stick will let you do a clean install.
