Indoor archery in AIT

Hey guys, just posting here to let people know that we're running indoor archery shoots in the MPH on Fridays from 2 till 4pm. It's a shorter range than the outdoor shoots, but it's better than nothing, or shooting in the pissing rain and ruining your bow :)
We need to actually use the hall, and be seen to use it, to ensure that we get to keep this time slot. So PLEASE come along! Your own bows are welcome provided they don't kill our target.

The archery club is part of the "medieval society" so if you're interested in it at all come along for a chat too :)

    Kthxby.

We do have loaner bows (ranging between 15 and 40 lb draw weight, or small child-friendly to decent enough size and power. Most are about 20lb though, which is average for beginners). Arrows and some bracers and gloves are also provided, but if you have your own kit then feel free to bring it along too.
We shoot a distance of 20 yards(or metres? I don't measure the range...) into a straw target butt, with a safety net strung up behind it.

N.B. All our arrows are steel-tipped and potentially quite dangerous, so please pay attention to all safety instructions from the marshals and don't do anything silly.

We've had a great two shoots so far this year, and if this keeps up we'll be able to hold indoor shoots until the weather improves enough to use the pitch again :)

Should be on this Friday again, 2-4pm in the MPH, all going well. We were told we could have it for two weeks in a row and then it would be reviewed, but we've had great attendance and great feedback, and archery is extremely popular so if we advertised more we'd get a lot more. And if we could have it on other days I'm sure we'd do a hell of a lot better because a lot of people have early busses on Fridays, but it's impossible to get mid-week times.

Great to hear. Good to see that some people actually put effort into running a society than letting it fall at the wayside :/

Enderman, you know it's the only reason I did 3rd year :P The new seneschal/Chairperson has bukkits of enthusiasm but not much experience so I'm helping him out and training him as we go. Sue won't let things die without a fight either, and we're doing a hell of a lot more this year than we were last year. Three fencers in kit and about 8 more waiting, Monday night A&S gatherings (crafts and non-violent stuff like medieval gaming), two students at last weekend's event in Shinrone, it's fookin' fantastic!!!

Wesf, if we can arrange more shoots during the year we will. I had to catch a bus home at 2.45 last year so rarely got to do any archery, I know how much of a pain it is. All we need is for Sue to have free time (I have loads) so we're covered legally, and people to help set up the target, net and mats. And time in the MPH, of course...

Should advertise this more. I happen to be around many weekends and would be something fun to try on a Friday evening

TimeClock18, I'm only deputy archery coach so this technically isn't my job. You are correct that we need to spread the word more, but I'm trying to get out of the habit of organising everything SCA/medieval soc related... :P
Feel free to tell and/or bring anybody you like, we're open to all :)

We'll be back shooting in 3 weeks. No archery or fencing this week because of the graduation, and the week after is midterm break so we won't be around :(

OK, the open day is on this Friday and Saturday so if the weather holds up we'll be shooting outdoors! :D 20, 30 and 40 yard/metre distances can be more fun if the wind isn't too strong...

If the weather sucks we'll be having a class on arrow-making in a classroom somewhere, probably on the D corridor. Seeing as we've broken quite a few arrows in the last few weeks, this is very much needed as well as a bit of fun (making your own kit is quite satisfying :))

Meet at C1162/the art room beside the S.U. office as close to 2pm as possible. If we're outside, we'll need some help carrying kit up to the playing field by the engineering building. If we're inside, come join our quest to find an empty classroom!

    Kthxby :)
